My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Lexi!
This little, lovely, sweet senior was surrendered to BrightSide after the previous owner could no longer care for her and her siblings. Lexi is a petite lap dog looking for a calm and quiet home to come out of her shell in. In her previous home, Lexi has lives with other dogs, however we aren't sure if she has lived with cats or children.
Although sweet, Lexi can be incredibly shy as she is still working on trusting us here at the shelter, but with pets and patience, she will warm right up.
If you are looking for a gentle small senior to add to the family, come meet Lexi Today!
- Lexi's Special Needs-
This dog has been diagnosed with luxating patellas. This means that her knee caps are not in the groove on her femur where they belong. In this dogs case, her knee caps sit more to the inside (medial) than they should. This is fairly common in small breed dogs due to genetics. Some dogs live their whole lives without needing medication or surgery. Others require anti-inflammatory medications or surgery to be more comfortable. It is recommended to consult with your veterinarian regarding the next steps for this dog. This dog also has periodontal disease and would benefit from a dental cleaning with possible extractions. It is not uncommon for small breed dogs to acquire dental calculus quickly, so we recommend yearly dental cleaning to improve her long term oral health. Lastly, this dog was treated with an antibiotic injection at the time of her spay due to dermatitis of her abdomen noted at the time. If the dermatitis does not continue to resolve, please schedule an appointment with your veterinarian for further diagnostics.
