Meet Onyx, formerly known as Kuma! Onyx is a fun loving, energetic puppy. She will be looking for her forever family after her vet work is completed in the first of August.
Onyx is energetic and fun loving. In her foster home, she is growing up with another small Chihuahua and adores her. Her personality is typical of a puppy, with a high energy level and constant play. She loves tumbling and is teething, she plays with all kinds of toys, and will even wear clothes with no problem at all. When she is done playing, she crashes for a nap. Then it is back to playing!
Onyx loves her human too. She is very outgoing and adores everyone she meets. When friends come to visit, she greets them at the door with a wagging tail. Onyx will follow you from room to room so she does not miss out on any fun. Note she can be a tripping hazard as she often gets close to your feet. Her new family will want to keep an eye on this. Onyx enjoys lap time and snuggle time. She will fall asleep on your lap or chest as she snuggles up with you. She has such a sweet spirit. She also does not let you have any alone time in the restroom or shower she will wait patiently for you.
Onyx is a super smart girl, she knows sit and wait and is working on walking well in a leash! We have noticed that she watches her Chihuahua sibling and copies what she does even going up a ramp to bed. We like this as she is very trainable. She has been doing well with her potty training. She has now had two rounds of shots. She catches on quickly and knows to go to her cage when you have to leave the home for her safety. She uses puppy pads but does try to cover them up and sometimes gets bored and tears up the puppy pads as well, so it's a work in progress. At night, she will sleep in a dog bed inside an pen. But she prefers to snuggle with you as you sleep! Onyx also must be fed certain amount of food and not free reign as she gorges herself.
The perfect home for Onyx would be one with high activity. Onyx would enjoy having another dog to grow up with. (Applications will not be considered where she would be the only dog.) Onyx also needs a family who can check on her every 2-3 hours (would not be a good fit for a family that works 8-12 hour days). She would be great in a home where there’s a great deal of activity and people were home a lot. There are no children in her foster home, but we believe she would do great with children 5 and up as she is a robust girl and not a dainty pup. Onyx is not really a barker but when in her cage she does howl and cry pretty loud and her foster is working on this but, because of that and her high energy level, we feel she would do better in a home environment versus an apartment.
Onyx is about 4 months old as of August. She is currently about 6 pounds and is growing. Our vet thinks she will be over 10 pounds when fully grown. Onyx has beautiful very short sleek black fur. She is definitely a mix, but whatever she is, she is adorable! We love her ears. And she has a beautiful green tint to her eyes. She is just precious! And she is easy to fall in love with.
