My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Margarita came into the shelter in June of 2022.
Her story is pretty unique.
She lived in a rural area and was left to roam. She took to visiting one of the local neighbors.
At that house lived a man who had Alzheimer's disease. They would sit on the porch together.
After a while the gentleman passed away. The family noticed that Margarita had had a litter of
puppies. Also, she looked a lot worse than she had previously.
Then one day she showed up with an injury to her right hind leg.
They finally brought her to the shelter. They tried for months to get the wound to heal, but it just
didn’t heal. Poor Margarita dragged the paw, so it just kept getting re-injured. We tried boots
and bandages but the toes just wouldn’t heal.
We took her to an orthopedic doctor. He looked at the way the toes were crushed, and he felt
that she may have gotten her foot caught in a coyote trap!
Then he gave us the news that we didn’t want to hear. It would be best to amputate the leg. He
explained everything to us. The decision was made to go ahead with the surgery.
The next week Dr. Arbitter did the surgery. Margarita did great! She walked out of the hospital
the next day with just a little hitch in her giddy up! She even went down stairs!
She has been recovering for about a month now. She is finally ready to find her forever home!
Margarita appears to be about 3 years old now. We think she is an English Setter mix. She
weighs about 60 pounds, has a thick, super soft coat that doesn’t shed a lot. She is heartworm
negative.
She is super sweet. She never fussed when we had to change bandages or give her
medication. She is, also, very lively! She can even do zoomies!

Your Current Pets - We do require that all of your current dogs and cats are current on vaccines and spayed/neutered.

Adoptions - We do not have a shelter and are a foster-home based organization. We do require that you have an approved adoption application to schedule a meet and greet. You can fill out an adoption application on our website, www.herorescue.org/adopt. Once your application is approved it will be sent to the foster family that is currently caring for the dog. They will be able to provide information on likes, dislikes, personality, etc. They will also schedule a time for you to meet the dog. We do require a homecheck prior to adoption.

Inquiries - If you would like more information on any dogs in the rescue, please email us at info@herorescue.org.
