Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Short legs- a long body- very cute. That’s me! Hi, I’m Dochi. I’m 6 years old, weigh about 11kg and am a mixed breed.
I had a rough life in the beginning. I used to live on a dog meat farm where there were so many dogs living in filthy constricting cages and were barely fed nor cared for. In April of 2019, there was a huge forest fire in the Gosung area, South Korea. Luckily good people found us during the fire and a few of survived dogs (I was one of them) were rescued right away.
I had zero exposure to much of anything before I came into the shelter. I have never interacted with people so I had to work on building confidence and improving socialization.
I’m still a little shy and nervous around people. With strangers, I can get treats from them but I would back up a bit when people start petting me. People can hold and lift me, but please be gentle and slow. I get a little anxious when people try to grasp me.
After living in a foster home, I got much better. I follow my foster mom everywhere and I let her pet me. Every day I gain confidence and feel comfortable. But please be patient with me, I just need a minute to warm up.
I am fostered with big and smaller dogs and we all get along. However, I don’t get too excited when meeting a new doggy friend. I would gently say hi to friends but I love to play alone and chill.
When I met a cat, I was not interested at all.
I’m a good walker. I don’t mind urban noises and follow the handler well.
A few more things about me, I love to eat and I don’t guard my resources at all. If you have a good treat for me, I could easily run up to you and sit pretty. I don’t want to mention this but my foster mom said, since I’m not an active dog, I can easily gain weight. Please monitor my weight and be a little strict on my diet.
I am also mastering crate training. I eat and sleep in a crate during the day.
I prefer the outdoor- potty but I randomly mark my territory indoors if I get comfortable. For the first couple of days or weeks, I would highly recommend you get me a diaper wrap until we set the regular bathroom routine.
I am absolutely adorable but please remember that I am a shy dog who is just learning how to function in the world so if you are prepared for all of that I look forward to meeting you!
* He is currently in South Korea and will be flying to Canada if he finds a foster/forever home
