Please read the bio in full for answers to your questions. In the event you have a question that is not covered in the bio, please email info@seniordoghaven.org. If interested in adopting, please complete an adoption application which can be found at https://seniordoghaven.org/adoption-process/.

Please note that because all of our dogs live in foster homes, we are unable to set up meetings with a dog unless we have a completed adoption application on file. Adoptions must be about an hour of Wilmington, DE in order for our volunteers to be able to conduct an in person home visit.

Meet Kirby, a 10-year-old Shih Tzu!

Kirby is a funny little man with a lot of personality and a dash of "Shih Tzu sass." He likes attention but also does well on his own while his people are at work or out for the evening, even if he occasionally complains a bit. He tends to play favorites, which is lovely when he endearingly lays his little head in your lap for snuggles and ear rubs, but not as lovely when he gets sad that you left the room for two minutes!

Kirby likes to go for sniff walks around the block when it isn't too hot, spends most of the day sleeping, and gets along excellently with other dogs and rabbits. He is fully house-trained but did have a few accidents in the kitchen when he first arrived at his new foster mom's house. He sleeps in the living room in a dog bed and is fine with that arrangement as long as he is asleep before his humans go up to bed. He can manage the stairs in and out of the house but can't climb the stairs to the second floor.

Kirby recently had a dental and had several teeth removed. He was diagnosed with a collapsing trachea and has an accompanying cough that is managed with inexpensive prescription cough tablets. He also receives over-the-counter eye drops twice daily. He can't see very well, and although he is good for his eye drops, he can get a bit snappy if you unexpectedly touch his face or startle him, so we don't think Kirby would do well in a house with young children.
