My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

MEET SASHA!

Sasha is an 11 year old wire-haired/chihuahua mix who was surrendered by her owner because of their declining health. When Sasha came to the rescue, she had a lump on her abdomen and a cataract in her eye rendering her partially blind. Since coming into rescue she has had a full vet workup, was spayed, had her tumors removed, and was also diagnosed with a heart murmur (which she now takes a 2x daily pill to treat). Her tumor biopsy showed she had a high grade mammary carcinoma, which has a higher chance of recurrence, but clean margins were taken so her prognosis is generally good!

Though Sasha’s medical issues show her age, her personality does not! Upon meeting her it’s pretty hard to believe Sasha is a senior because she still has the energy of a puppy. She does zoomies around the house, loves walks, and has no trouble with stairs. The only difference between Sasha and most puppies is that Sasha has no interest in playing with toys, all she wants is to play with her humans. Sasha’s favorite activity is to get attention and be pet. And she's a little clown! If she sees you have a free hand she’s quick to nudge her head under it, and if she sees you have a free lap she’s quick to jump on it. Sasha lives with other dogs in foster care and she thinks they’re fine but will act as the "fun police" by barking on the sidelines while they play. Her biggest desire is to be your one and only, receiving 100% of your attention! And believe us, with Sasha's hilarious and big personality, she's more than enough!

Sasha spends most of her day following around her foster mom as she works from home, and Sasha is reported to have good office manners, spending most of her time calmly lounging on a lap or in a dog bed. Her one quirk is she does like to talk to the dogs outside and people who talk as they walk down the street (she is in foster care in the city), so if you have sensitive neighbors or live in a high traffic area this is something to be mindful of. Sasha loves to go for walks, and the moment you pick up her leash she will burst with excitement. She’s house trained and walks well on a leash, but will occasionally bark at other dogs if they get in close proximity. She has zero qualms about meeting new people, she will happily come be your friend, especially if you’re willing to pet her! She is easy going so she would likely do well in a home with pet-savvy kids. She has not been tested around cats but has been tested around parrots and rabbits, and she seems to get a little too excited so it’s not recommended she live with other small animals. With dogs Sasha’s approach can be a bit reactive or standoffish, but she’s proven she can cohabitate well with slow intros!

Overall, Sasha is a delightful, energetic senior dog who would love nothing more than a person to love for the rest of her years. If you are looking for a fun loving lap dog with the energy of a puppy and the maturity of a senior, then Sasha may be the dog for you!

Sasha is available for adoption through City of Elderly Love. She is spayed, vaccinated and microchipped. Interested in adopting her? Visit www.cityofelderlylove.org to complete an online adoption questionnaire or email us at info@cityofelderlylove.org!
