PLEASE HELP! I've been volunteering at the Humane Society of NWGA. The shelter is full so you can imagine the chaos. But, in all the mayhem there is Cubby. He is a sweet and gentle Beagle/Lab mix who has been in the shelter for over 2 years! I couldn't understand why he was being overlooked so Ron and I decided to take him to our home for a few nights to figure him out. We have an unfinished backyard with no grass, no fence and travel quite a bit so adopting Cubby isn't possible for us but WHY OH WHY is he still there! All I knew about Cubby before his visit was that his previous owner had died, that he was quiet in an insanely loud shelter, he keeps his kennel clean between potty breaks, he is gentle but seems sad. After two days in our home I have learned who Cubby really is! Cubby is gentle and loves to cuddle! Whether it's exploring, walking, or "chilling and grilling", Cubby loves to be outside! Once the excitement calms down, Cubby walks well on a leash! Cubby is youthfully playful, but mature enough to quickly settle down for a nap! Cubby is a people lover and pleaser and takes your lead on all things! Cubby is potty trained, comes when he's called, knows the "sit" command, and sleeps peacefully all night! Cubby isn't afraid of storms and was calm when we had thunder roll in. Cubby is quiet but speaks volumes with his eyes! Cubby loves treats, squeaky toys and soft chews but isn't a fan of the Nylon Bones. Cubby is curious about other dogs and with proper introduction would do well with others. I can't say if Cubby would be compatible with cats since we don't have one but based on how he perked up at the site of a squirrel...maybe not? Cubby loves everyone but seems to really like the fellas, maybe because Cubby's previous owner was a man. Cubby's biggest challenge? Our hardwood floors scare him! We laid some rugs and towels down and he walked happily on them. And, in just two days Cubby has stepped onto the bare floor to get to his bowls and is very curious to explore. I know he could conquer this minor fear with loving guidance and patience within days! His estimated age is +/- 8 years but he is very healthy and full of life and acts like a 4 year old.....youthfully playful yet maturely calm! Cubby is a beautiful boy inside and out. Today, Cubby will go back to the shelter and it breaks my heart that he may be confused. But I will see him twice weekly while he continues to wait for his forever person. I am BEGGING my friends to share this post or even consider Cubby to join your family! All Cubby needs is a fenced yard, a soft bed, clean water and two square meals a day. In return you will get a loving, loyal, lifelong friend. Cubby is an absolute gem. To submit an adoption application for Cubby, volunteer, or donate to his care follow this link: https://hsnwga.org/ Let's get this boy adopted friends!! Our adoptable dogs and cats are viewable through our website. Everyone interested in applying for a dog or cat must submit an application through our website. We receive multiple applications for each animal. Applications for particular animals are based on best fit for each animal based on each animal’s behaviors and needs. An application not being selected for a particular animal does not necessarily mean the application was denied, but just that another application was approved.
