Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Meet Kimber, a 5 year old purebred Australian Shepherd fostered in Courtland VA, who will be available for adoption soon. She is 64 lbs and on a diet to slim down and has the cutest fluffy nub, no tail.
Kimber has had a loving family her whole life but significant medical difficulties meant she spent a lot of the last 2 years in and out of boarding with little access to her people or exercise. ASF was asked to help find her a stable loving home she could thrive in. Her family says she is good with cats and older children, and is comfortable around electric wheelchairs.
Foster mom is not recommending young kids at this time. She has lived with multiple foster dogs at foster homes and has played a little with them but prefers to play with people throwing balls or frisbees. She prefers dog friends who respect her space and are not pushy and won’t compete for her beloved frisbee. She is also content to be an only dog.
Kimber’s many life disruptions have shaken her confidence. She can be afraid and unsure with new people and new places. With patience and time she can be the biggest love bug always wanting to follow her humans around and getting petting and bellyrubs. She needs an adopter who will keep working with her slowly to build her confidence and trust.
Her anxiety is also worse when left alone esp if confined in a small space - she is not crate trained - she has not shown any tendencies to destructive behavior but she will pace and bark. Foster mom is working hard on finding a good plan for her when she needs to be home alone and she is making some progress
She loves going on walks and this, with a better diet, have been helping her to lose some weight. Consistency and structure along with love and understanding will bring her back to the sweet being she was before her world upended.
Kimber will thrive in a home she can be at forever - stability in her life will go a long way in helping her rebuild her confidence. She would love a quieter home life and some car rides that wind up with a pup-cup instead of a boarding kennel or a vet.
A fenced in back yard for her obsession with fetch would be a plus, although once she is attached to her new people she is a good candidate to be reliably off-lead.
If you love a great game of fetch and giving bellyrubs, are home more often than away, and enjoy the company of a sweet, loving and sensitive Aussie, please fill out an application!
