Please read the bio in full for answers to your questions. In the event you have a question that is not covered in the bio, please email info@seniordoghaven.org. If interested in adopting, please complete an adoption application which can be found at https://seniordoghaven.org/adoption-process/.
Please note that because all of our dogs live in foster homes, we are unable to set up meetings with a dog unless we have a completed adoption application on file. Adoptions must be about an hour of Wilmington, DE in order for our volunteers to be able to conduct an in person home visit.

Meet Luna,
This sweet little female Yorkie came to us from a partner shelter after she was turned in as a stray. She is approximately 9-10 yrs old and petite at under 10lbs! We did an enormous amount of vetting due to her untreated cardiac disease to navigate what treatment plan would be in her best interest. With the guidance of both our primary and specialty vet expertise, we felt it best to medically manage her heart through medications, diet and monitoring. We are happy to say her life as a once very inactive and shy gal has now changes into a playful, interactive lifestyle! She has become quite the rascal when playing and romping with her canine foster buddies, and we would even say acts young for her age! Quite the difference from the pup we initially took in. She seems to have had very little training in her previous home but is an excellent listener and learner, and able to keep within the boundaries of her active fosters household!

She is making great strides with her housebreaking, but we can’t quite say 100%. But she has great potential!!
One of her big issues was her weight- and luckily she has turned into a great eater!
She has proven to be great with other dogs & children!

We are considering Luna ‘Special Needs’ due to her cardiac history and need for optimal medical management. We do believe she has more to live, experience, and learn about the world - but much of that also depends on her new caregivers attention to her medical and ongoing needs . Luna will require cardiac meds for the rest of her life , as well as more frequent annual vet check ups to monitor or tweak the current meds she is healthy and thriving on. (Check-ins with your vet every 6 months, as well as a veterinary cardiologist as needed). Her medications cost approximately $35 a month.

We know her family is out there, and will take one look at her puppy dog eyes and say ‘I can’t live without her! Could that be you?
