Scruffy is the most adorable youngster with an easygoing demeanor and outgoing personality. He is intense and excitable especially when it comes to playing fetch and playing with other dogs - his two favorite activities. He weighs 48 lbs and is active. He loves to play with dogs, cats and kids but is into rough housing. Older/slower dogs and cats may not like that and he may be too much for little kids. While staying at foster home for three months, he has lived with four dogs of various sizes and ages and did well, but he starts off strong/dominant so a slow introduction on leash is recommended. But he will quickly settle down and establish a playful friendship with other dogs.
Scruffy is very affectionate with his humans, and likes to get frequent hugs and pets. He loves sitting on a lap to be petted. Don't be surprised if he crawls up on you on the couch as he craves the human contact. He is protective of his home and is alert to the noises. He knows the sit, come, no and fetch commands. He is housetrained and indicates his need to go out by pacing around and going to the back door. He used to live outside in his time with the previous family and he likely did not get much needed training on walking and pacing himself as a puppy, so he is learning now. He was given up because his family couldn't take care of him. Please be patient with him as he is eager to learn and show you how good he is as a family dog.
Scruffy knows leashwalking, but is very motivated by squirrels, rabbits and critters and pulls and leads. He still needs training with that. A sturdy harness and leash set, and consistent verbal reinforcement help there. He also needs an occasional reminder/time out to give the other dog space and time to rest, as he thinks that they should be ready to play with him always! Please offer adorably scruffy Scruffy the home, family and attention he craves. His foster, Ram can be reached at (281) 202-9076 or CAPdogfoster@gmail.com to get additional details.
