My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Ru (fka Bruno) is settling in at Summit Dog Rescue.

He's an adorable Miniature Poodle (maybe Doodle mix?). He doesn't have breed papers so we aren't sure of his actual breed - but he has quite a stripe of golden/red on his back and ears.

Ru is super sweet and loves to be with his person. He follows you from room to room and will be your best pal. He has nice medium energy and enjoys walks and hikes (maybe a few miles after working up to it?). Because he is such a velcro dog, we think he has great off leash potential in safe settings.

He will alarm-bark at new people coming in but with a few treats and some appropriate human behavior, he warms up quickly. That being said, we have noticed that while he likes new people he is sensitive to his personal space being overstepped, and he displays body language of discomfort with petting by strangers. We will want adopters who are open to learning how to read these subtle body language cues from him so that he's not uncomfortable.

Little dogs often have this happen, where they are over-handled by well intentioned people, and then as they mature they can learn that biting stops the petting (because people didn't notice the lip licks, the frozen body, the head down etc.).

He's an amazing little dude, but like most rescue dogs he'll need someone committed to training. He's been known to bark at new things on leash and will need people who are committed to working with him on his leash skills and confidence around new people.

Ru's ideal home would be where he's the only resident dog as he's not interested in sharing attention with other dogs in the household.

Ru is housetrained as long as you take him out often - as he's still a puppy.

Ru loves to be on your lap and can be very affectionate. His ideal spot is within 3 feet of his human.

Ru is very in touch with his people's emotions and wants to attend to you if he you are upset. He is a very special little guy. He is also incredibly smart, and loves to be mentally stimulated.

He's really playful and fun because...he's a puppy!
He can alarm on walks at different stimuli, so working with a force-free trainer is required for this guy... he is so smart and is currently learning other ways of coping with his concerns.

For sure, a yard would be nice for him. He loves being out in the grass, sniffing and digging. For this reason we're saying No Apartments for this active boy, please and thanks.

We require all our adopters work with a force-free trainer from our list. In addition, the adoption fee includes one session with our board member who is a certified professional trainer (among other certifications).

Ru's ideal forever home would be in the Boulder area so Summit Dog Rescue can continue to give him and his adopters support. However, we will consider excellent homes elsewhere.

For more info and/or to apply to adopt Ru, email us at Summitdogrescue@yahoo.com, telling us a bit about yourself, your home environment and your lifestyle. A volunteer will get back to you as soon as they can.

Please read about SDR, as we are very focused on educating our adopters about force-free training, so if you aren't open to learning and receiving professional resouces, we might not be the right rescue for you.
