My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Xena is our first dog that experienced our Foster Field Trip program and it has turned into a very extended field trip. โค๐Ÿ˜‚โค
Her foster mom is our Executive Director and once she had her out and about and realized how perfectly perfect she was, a family meeting was held and it was unanimous that she could stay until she had a CT foster home or an adopter.
Xena came to us from our shelter partner in Petal MS. Our partner rescued her from a high kill shelter, nursed her back to health and sent her on to us for placement.
When she started her extended foster field trip, she loaded up very nicely and easily in her foster mom's Jeep. She rode calmly on her outing to the ballpark to watch 10 year olds play baseball. She was approached by several children and adults who asked if they could pet her and she was totally at ease with strangers approaching her. She didn't understand why she couldn't chase the balls that got away from the children but she corrected easily on leash when her foster mom told her a firm no. Of course, she was also VERY excited to be out and about after being in the shelter for a few months so it really wasn't a big deal or unexpected that she was ready to run after things.
When she left the ballpark, she went back to Molli's house for a run in the yard (and she's still there....LOL!!!) She played with toys, ate her dinner, rolled in the grass a lot, sniffed all the things, was comfortable coming inside and comfortable going outside on her own.
The first few nights, she slept in the closet but she's transitioned herself to the loveseat in the living room. At night, she hangs out with the family in the living room and pretty much just snoozes. During the day, she likes to spend a lot of time outside when somebody is home. When she's left alone, she is kenneled. She's not crazy about the kennel but she'll do it.
She's very good with all humans and is good with other dogs, but honestly, she'd be happiest being an only dog and have occasional play dates. She is not good with cats and farm animals.
She's been checked out head to toe by our vet and the only potential ongoing health issue at this time is her vision/eyes. She suffers from dry eye in one eye and requires twice daily very inexpensive eye drops for that. Her other eye is forming a cataract and will likely cause her to lose her vision in that eye eventually. There's no way to know how long the vision in that eye will be good and it's possible that she might lose vision in both eyes at some point. If you're not familiar with a blind dog, it's really not a big deal if they are already in a familiar home. It takes them a bit to learn how many steps to take from one place to another, but they catch on very quickly in my experience.
Her bloodwork is perfect, she's been checked for a UTI because she potties a tiny bit several times on her walk but that's just how she is. She's had a million litters of puppies and her nipples are proof of that. These imperfections are what make her all the more perfect!!
We don't know her true breed mix but almost everybody that spends any amount of time with her will eventually say that she looks like an XXL Frenchie so that's what we're going with. We know she's probably not a Frenchie at all, but does it really matter what breed she is when she's 100% love and joy and gratitude in a beautiful gray velvet coat??
If you think Xena will be a good fit for your home, please hop on over to www.cprdogs.com for our online application. Upon approval, we can arrange transport and/or set up a meet and greet. Her foster mom will be happy to reply to emails with an approved adopter.
This dog is spayed/neutered, up to date on vaccinations, and current on flea/tick and heartworm preventative. This dog has tested negative for heartworms. The adoption fee is $450 if your adoption is prepaid and final prior to your dog's arrival. An additional $50 will be charged on dogs that are picked up from our Southbury CT adoption center, adopted at an event, or foster home. This additional fee is necessary in order to comply with CT HB 5368.

WANT TO MEET OUR DOGS IN PERSON? Check the Events tab on cprdogs.com for all weekend adoption event info. The majority of the dogs marked as 'meet me' will be there to see you!

If you are a MA resident, your new family member is required to go through a mandatory 48 hour quarantine period at our Woburn MA isolation facility. Your new family member will be dropped off by our transport on Thursday and will be ready for you to pick him/her up on Saturday between 11 am-1 pm. An additional $100 fee will be added for any dogs picked up from the Woburn MA quarantine facility. This additional fee is necessary in order to comply with MA Order 405-CD-12 and Order 1-AHO-05.

TO APPLY PLEASE GO TO www.cprdogs.com. If your application was successfully submitted you will get a confirmation. Please DO NOT USE the ADOPTAPET "CONTACT THIS RESCUE GROUP" form below or you may not hear from us as these often end up in spam or bouncing back.

After receipt of your application, an adoption counselor will then be in touch to answer your questions about this pup, discuss the adoption process and get the ball rolling! If you have not heard from one of our volunteers within 5 days of submitting your application, please email mollibo@gmail.com.
