Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Snow is 2 years old, who has been through a lot. She was found as a stray and brought to the shelter. Snow is going to need a special someone who has patience and experience with the Dogo breed. Snow is very leery of humans and will take time warming up to you but once she does she is very loving and loyal to her owners. Snow is in a foster family now and is doing well with her foster fur brother. Snow would do great in a home as a only dog or another male her size. No children or small pets.
Snow is looking for the perfect someone that loves to work with a special rescue dog! Somebody abandoned her and she was found on the streets as a stray before making it to a shelter in northern Indiana. We were able to pull her the day she was scheduled for euthanasia and glad we did! We are certain that Snow is going to be one of those amazing transformation rescues once she finds her permanent home!
Currently Snow is with one of our wonderful foster homes where she enjoys playing with their rescue male dogo. She really likes him but needs some work to have the confidence with other dogs. We don't know her struggles on the street before but surely this caused her to be on the defense when meeting strange dogs and people. This is going to take some time and patience to help her overcome some of these fears but we know she can do it!
We think Snow did not get enough proper socialization during her first critical years before being dumped so she can be shy and untrusting when meeting strangers. Her new person needs to be someone that will help her work through this and gain the confidence she needs to not stress over these situations.
We definitely do not think that Snow is a 'broken' dog and we know the right home is out there for her. She deserves a committed person that will dedicate their heart to her mental wellbeing and help her be the confident dog she deserves to be! At only 2 years old, she has many bright years ahead of her and we can't wait to see her flourish with her new person!
Dogos are a wonderful breed but we urge anyone interested to dig in and do a lot of research before deciding if they are a good fit for your home. They require a lot of attention and training with them never ends! Boundaries must be enforced and they often need reminders as they push past boundaires you set! Dogos are loving, kind and gentle but don't mistake that for weakness because they are equally powerful and intense as well! Everyone in the home must be on board with having a dogo and play a major role in their daily routines and training. Yes it is work, but the rewards are ten-fold! Lazy homes don't work for dogos as they need stimulation, exercise, and lots of attention too during their younger years. Our goal in rescue is to be as transparent as we can about each and every dog plus make sure new families really understand the needs of a dogo!
