We were so excited when Oakli was retired by his breeder. This meant he was going to get his own family! But our joy was short lived, as we discovered in his vet appointment, he was heartworm positive.

If you follow our rescue, you know this is a hot button for us. We require families who apply to be able to prove they use heartworm prevention on a regular basis. Because Oakli was not on a regular heartworm preventative, he will now spend several months being treated for heartworms. Heartworms, left untreated, would have taken his life in a very painful & tragic manner.

We are beginning the process of finding Oakli's forever home. We are hoping to connect him with his family so he can start building that relationship while he is still going through his heartworm treatments. G4P will pay (via a very generous donor who sponsored Oakli's care) for his heartworm treatments until he is clear. His family must follow all the procedures & directives to get Oakli through treatment. That will include daily medication, keeping him calm & quiet, and taking him to the vet to receive injections. The vet appts will amount to about 3 or 4 visits that must be made on specific dates to effectively kill the heartworms.

Not losing sight of Oakli & his personality, his family should know he is precious. He is a sweet, reserved, little guy that enjoys cuddling up as close as he can get to his person. He loves being with humans. He enjoys the big bed at night, and he gets along with all his foster siblings.

He does pretty good on a leash, and he will continue to get better. We will not be requiring a fenced yard, mostly because he absolutely can NOT run around or be allowed to be off leash for several months. His heart rate & pulse must be kept even until he is medically cleared.

Oakli will make an excellent family addition. He is sweet, loving, & an absolute doll. We look forward to making a family connection for Oakli soon.
