Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Friends to the Forlorn

Adopt-a-Bull

Name:  Nellie
Breed: Pitbull
DOB:  4/4/2020
Sex:  Female
Weight:  39 Pounds
Location:  Acworth, GA

Rescuing Nellie...
During the week of 3/21/22 this sweet girl was picked up as a stray and ended up at Henry County Animal. The shelter named her Bonnie originally. When she came in she had a huge distended belly and we were told that she was pregnant and needed immediate rescue. She was about 50 pounds. After seeing our vet it was determined that she was not pregnant and was actually in heart failure and was heartworm positive. Her chest was full of fluid which was making it difficult for her to breathe. Our vet drained fluid from her chest and her breathing was very labored so she spent a week at UGA in an oxygen chamber to get her heart evaluated and medications in order.

About Nellie...
Nellie is the epitome of a pitbull - perfect size at 39 pounds, affectionate, professional clinger, loyal, laid back, resilient, and just wants to be with her people. Her temperament is more submissive than dominant and she is a go-with-the-flow kind of gal. This girl has gone through some serious medical battles in her short life and her tail hasn't stopped wagging! Since being in her foster home, she has already undergone heartworm treatment and has been on consistent heart medications. Her heart condition is much better, but will still get a little winded when she over-exerts herself. Nellie still loves her daily walks every day and some play time! She has gone from multiple medications multiple times a day to only one medication twice daily. She does well with all dogs, children, and cats! Nellie is a quiet girl and is not a big barker. She enjoys sniffing around the yard, likes her snuffle mat to search out kibble, and enjoys a soft plush toy to snuggle with. Nellie rides great in the car too! Nellie is not a picky eater and is treat-motivated so training her should be fairly easy. She is the perfect dog for a family that wants a furry companion that will wiggle her way into your heart while showering you with lots of snuggles and kisses. It's going to take a special family for her. A family that has the time and structure to continue her medications and condition. A family that is OK with giving a little extra TLC to a sweet girl that deserves a 2nd chance with a family that truly loves her. Nellie doesn't let her heart condition stop her so don't let it stop you from falling in love with her.
