My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

This little guy came to Homes Fur Hounds after his owner could no longer take care of him.

Jesse is a 5 year old friendly boy, although we were told he didn't like men. He loves his foster dad and spends lots of time on his lap, so maybe he is particular about who he is afraid of. He does love being a lap dog and can be a little clingy.

He had one incident where he was on the foster's lap and he woke up snarling and growling and turned and tried biting both foster parents. He may have been dreaming that time. He also has snapped at them a couple of times out of the blue when they were giving treats so he needs someone willing to work with a dog with this fear behavior. We don't want him in a home with young children.

Here is what his foster mom had to say after Jesse had been there a couple of weeks:

“ I can’t say enough good things about Jesse. He has blossomed from an anxious, reactive dog into a much more confident, tolerant pet.

Jesse had an issue with fear biting when we first got him. In just two weeks he has become more and more tolerant of unexpected touching but we are careful not to push him. He does not like to be touched when he is sleeping, but who does?

We believe once he trusts you his reactivity will diminish greatly. Jesse wants to be with his person 24/7. He does have separation anxiety which is also improving daily.

He is not yet crate trained. He sleeps with his person. He seems to gravitate towards men but loves women too.

He is great with dogs who do not mind sharing their person with him. He prefers dogs his own size but ok with large calm dogs.

Jesse seems to have had no guidance in his former home. He responds well to verbal correction. He is not fully housebroken. However, he only needs to go out 3 times a day.

Jesse is not good with cats or other small animals. He does ignore caged birds.

Jesse is ok with short walks but prefers to cuddle on the couch or just hang out with you.

Jesse is a smart, loving dog who needs a dog savvy owner who will love and work with him. He responds well to positive verbal enforcement. He is very sensitive to the mood of his person!”

We think he would do best with someone who is home a lot! When left alone, he does cry for awhile, but he's been quiet when the foster parents come home so he does settle down eventually.

For an application go to www.homesfurhounds.com. He is located in Williamsburg, Va.
