Here's what the humans have to say about me:
POPPY - Lab cross / 5 Years / 18kg / F-Spayed
“The type of dog that will be with you forever” – DIBS Founder on Poppy
“She’s a dream on walks” – Poppy’s Trainer
“One of the most special dogs I’ve ever met” – Poppy’s foster mom
Poppy has had a taste of the good life and she’s not looking back. Almost every dog that comes from Mexico is a survivor in their own way. But Poppy was able to survive Mexico, and unfortunate circumstances in Canada and she is coming out on top. At DIBS, our mission to Poppy is for her to learn to trust again!
Poppy is the type of dog that you feel grateful to know, and thankful to have crossed paths with. Her sweet personality is blossoming everyday, and each small win is as rewarding as the last. The morning is her favourite time of the day because she is so excited to see you. She will run around, come in for pets, and wag her tail like crazy as it’s a new day that she gets to spend with her favourite people. Poppy is slowly getting integrated into toys and seems to enjoy a squeaky toy from time to time. Her infectious smile can light up the room and she hilariously loves to catch flies with her mouth (it’s cute, trust us).
Poppy’s training is going incredibly well. She knows place, lie down, sit, heel, come, wait, stay, you name it, and Poppy knows it and if she doesn’t, it wont take long for her to learn. She’s incredibly smart. Poppy’s walking skills are where she shines the most. She loves to go on walks and hikes and visit new places. She is cautious about most things at first, but with a bit of confidence from her leader, she slips in with ease. Poppy is housetrained and can even be asked to do her business (just say “Poppy potty”). She is also crate trained and gravitates towards the crate as it is her safe space. So, we ask that her future home does not leave her crated for super long periods of time because she will just stay there willingly.
All that being said, yes Poppy is incredibly well trained and sweet. But we are looking for a future family that will keep up with her training and show her the unconditional love that she deserved five years ago. Poppy is not the kind of dog that should wind up as part of the furniture, but the type of dog that will become as important as the human family members in the home. Poppy would love a happy-go lucky dog pal in the home also (30lbs or bigger preferred). Poppy also passed her cat tests and enjoys their company so long as proper introductions have taken place.
If you feel like you can give Poppy the kind of devoted love that she deserves, check out the adoption process and application at www.dibsrescue.com . Her adoption fee is $750. If you are a family with kids, please check out our resources on kids and dogs before you apply.
