Here's what the humans have to say about me:
In Alta Dena
Meet Mila! Mila is 2 year old Aussie in need of a new, loving, active home that also has at least one other dog around her age that likes to play. Mila's prior owners were going to drop her at a shelter because they were moving and 'didn't have room for her.' A Good Samaritan neighbor took her in temporarily. She then found a foster family to care for her until we could find her a good home.
Mila is an amazing pup. She's about 10 months old and a pure bred Aussie Double Merle who is deaf. She might be able to hear very very high pitched tones, but it's not clear yet. She does not seem to have any sight impairment.
Being deaf has not slowed her down one bit. I have purchased a vibration collar, training books and have reached out to a trainer to help. All of this will be passed on to her new family, along with all of her chews and toys.
Mila is one of the happiest dogs ever - despite changing a few hands recently. She is, however, a classic velcro dog. She is super loving and enjoys lots of petting or lying her head on your foot. She loves walks and playing. In fact, she loves playing with other dogs sooooooo much, that she can only go to a home where there is another dog in the home that is her size or bigger and likes to play as well. She would not have as full of a life as an only dog.
Mila couldn't stay with her rescuer because she kept trying to play too much with that family's mini-aussies, and the mini's were too small and afraid to play with her. She plays daily with her current foster mom's aussie and a friend's aussie puppy. And, in classic aussie fashion, she barks a lot (and loudly) when she plays. She loves people - she has never met a person she didn't like.
She does jump on strangers and people that walk through the door, so she will need to be trained. In classic aussie fashion, she loves to walk through the legs of strangers as well. She is trained to sit and give you her paw using signs. She does pull a little on leash, but walks pretty well with a harness that is designed to deal with that.
She has classic aussie puppy energy - zoomies in the morning and evening and will play as much as your other dog or you can manage.
Mila, as you can see, is gorgeous. She's probably around 45-50 pounds, and she is spayed and up-to-date on her shots. With the right training and lots of stimulation and activity, she will be the perfect dog. She is almost there already. In fact, if her foster mom's dog wasn't ill, Mila would be staying with her foster mom forever. She is a total love-bug. She was used to sleeping on the bed at her former house and it appears the couch was fair game as well. She is not allowed on the couch at her foster mom's (but is allowed on the bed), so it will take some training to teach her not to do that if you prefer she doesn't. She may have separation anxiety, though she seems to do ok as long as someone is home. But you cannot lock her alone in a different room or outside without her crying a lot and scratching. Her foster mom does not believe she was crate trained.
We do not know how she is with cats, but she has a high prey drive and goes crazy for the bunnies that like to visit her foster mom's backyard in the evenings (she lives in the foothills) as well as chases bugs and flying things.
Happy, loving Mila needs to go to a home that is active - lots of walks and/or hikes - has at least one other dog near her age, has a large enclosed backyard so she can run a lot, and understands how to have a deaf dog, or is willing to learn, and can train her, so she has a full life.
She is currently located in the Pasadena, CA area, a suburb of LA. If Mila sounds like a good fit for you, please fillout our appliction: https://www.australianshepherdsfurever.org/adoption-application All adoption fees are used for future rescue efforts.
