Meet our awesome foster dog Percy (Turkey at TAPS). Percy is a 8 1/2 year old Chihuahua mix. He initially came to TAPS in July of 2022 along with my dog Maynard. They came out of a hoarding situation of over 70 dogs. Both have adjusted so well since then. We appreciate all the work Percy’s previous Mom put into making sure he was socialized. I was fostering Percy with the hope that his Mom would rehab from some health issues, but with heavy hearts we found out she passed away this week. Now we are searching for the right forever home for Percy. He is a happy dog that sometimes has to be enticed to eat his dog food, but loves treats. He has been in our foster home for 4 months and has adjusted well. He is easy to care for. He likes attention and belly rubs, but may also disappear under the bed or in the laundry basket. He is potty trained and does great with my small and large dogs. If you think you might be able to give Percy a happy ending of a forever home apply at: tapsshelter.org

TAPS-Tazewell Animal Protective Society was founded in 1958 in Pekin Illinois in a building donated by the City of Pekin on River Road. In 1979, rapidly rising river water forced the evacuation of the animals. Once again, the City of Pekin stepped in and donated a building for the animals. Several moves later, and with the help and generosity of many volunteers and community members, TAPS now has a new home at 100 TAPS Lane. Last year we celebrated 50 year of caring for the homeless animals of Central Illinois.
