My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Welcome, Benny! Benny came really close to to being put to sleep in a rural shelter in SW Va. There are so many homeless dogs and puppies right now that hounds are having a very hard time making it out of shelters alive. It's a good thing many of our fosters have a soft spot for hounds or this boy would be dead. Donating to and adopting from Augusta Dog Adoptions means we can take care of more of the dogs that others turn away from.

Benny is a middled aged, black and tan coonhound/walker coonhound mix who weighs about 65 pounds and most likely comes from a hunting background. He is a little shy of new situations but is kind and sweet and good with other dogs. We doubt that he'd be a good match for a home with cats. He'd likely be just fine with kids. We know that hounds make great house dogs and deserve loving families just as much as any other breed. Benny is a dog that we are proud to say we saved!

Augusta Dog Adoptions is an all- volunteer, foster- based rescue. We take applications online and are scheduling individual adoptions in the Waynesboro, VA area during the pandemic. A $175.00 adoption fee ($300 for puppies under 6 months old) helps us take care of all the dogs we rescue. All dogs are spayed/neutered, tested for heartworm and tick borne diseases (if old enough), microchipped, and vaccinated for rabies (if old enough), distemper/parvo and bordetella. They are also treated for internal and external parasites. Many dogs also receive extensive medical care such as dental work and major surgeries.
