Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Romeo, or Rome, as his foster mom calls him, is a sweetheart of a dog.
Rome is about 4 yrs old and 59 lbs. He's a beautiful black boy with a unique, white ticking pattern on his chest and paws. He's a very calm, even keel boy. He would make a perfect housemate for someone who works from home, or is retired, seeking a companion to be by their side that requires little effort. Rome is housetrained and can be crated without issue, but he is so well-behaved, he's earned the privilege of being allowed to free roam in his foster home when home alone. At night, he sleeps on a dog bed in the bedroom, or on the human's bed, with the rest of the family. The only thing to be watched out for is the counters - true to lab form, he's been known to check them out.
Rome's most favorite place to be is in his foster mom's lap. He absolutely loves to snuggle up and have a nice nap in her lap in the evening. His ideal forever home would be one that is seeking a lap dog, or at least, one that would allow him on the couch next to them!
Rome has shown no interest in toys of any kind or fetching. But he's been to the river a few times and seems to enjoy swimming around. He follows his person in and out of the water and swims around just like an otter - it's soo cute! He loads up in the car on his own and rides well, too.
Rome also enjoys going for walks. He gets a little pep in his step and will even prance occasionally. He doesn't pull on leash, but he does sway from here to there, sniffing and checking things out along the way.
We never know a dog's past when we save them from a shelter, but we do know their future is bright. Rome is a sensitive guy who can sometimes be unsure of things. It takes him a bit to be comfortable with hands and take treats from someone new or walking through doorways and doggy gates. He may also flinch when he is initially touched (even if he approaches asking for pets). But that is over and done with in a flash, and then if you stop petting him, he leans in, or nudges you for more. We believe he truly enjoys getting loved on (as evidenced by his lap-dog nature), but that he may not have had much of it in his past, and therefore is still getting used to it!
Rome is dog friendly and would benefit from having a doggy pal in his forever home to help provide him with confidence and a feeling of security. He's gained a lot from his 4-legged foster sister in just a few short weeks, and we believe this can continue in a forever home with a buddy! While he is cautious about some things, he has no trouble saying "hi to people on his own and enjoying their gentle pets in return. We don't know about cats or kids but we'd suggest kids 13 and up.
Overall, Rome is a doll of a dog, and we know he'll make someone very lucky to have him. If you think you might be that someone, please apply at www.luckylabrescue.com. Rome is microchipped, neutered, and vaccinated, and he's ready for his happily ever after!
