Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Our lovely Lulu is a statuesque Amazon Beauty, with great presence and confidence. One and a half years old, Lulu is an older puppy who was brought to NYCACC after her owner died. Despite the shock of shelter life, Lulu adapted beautifully and earned superb behavior evaluations. We were delighted to welcome beautiful Lulu into our rescue.
Lulu is a large, powerful girl weighing 80 pounds. She is at a healthy weight, and has a strong, muscular physique. Her rich black merle pattern coat and prick ears suggest her primary breed is Dutch Shepherd. Her coat is short, smooth and easy to groom.
Lulu is an extremely friendly girl, and shows no stranger danger. She relishes human touch, and willingly flips over for affectionate belly rubs. She has already passed many of the Canine Cood Citizenship tests, and is a breeze to train. Lulu loves the work, so motivated adopters could easily take her the rest of the way and receive a CGC certification.
Lulu would do well in an active household, in which she would receive a good deal of exercise and mental stimulation. Her breed roots are Working Dog, so ongoing activity and obedience work will go a long way to keep her challenged, calm and balanced. Lulu would like to be in the forefront of the family, and be invited to participate in family activities. She's not a dog to be relegated to the backyard, where boredom and frustration can set in to create unpleasant consequences.
Lulu would do well in a family with older kids, who are comfortable with large breed dogs, and who are all on the same page about meeting her exercise and training needs. She could also join an active single or couple, and would be the ideal running or hiking companion. Lulu is an excellent traveler and would love to join her folks on camping or road trips. She could easily join a multi-dog home; she enjoys play, but tends to roughhouse. We have not tested Lulu with cats, but she would likely chase them in spirited play.
Lulu has good house manners and is house trained and crate trained. Adopters should expect to troubleshoot the occasional accident that will inevitably occur during her transition to a new home. She is in optimal health, and has been recently spayed. She has received all routine vaccinations and health screenings.
