Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Hi! My foster family calls me Miss Brave because I’m a brave girl! Here’s my story:
My mom and dad belonged to an elderly woman. Just before Christmas, they gave the lady a wonderful surprise - 5 puppies! We all lived a quiet life with the lady. I had lots of fun playing with my siblings, but we didn’t get to meet new people or have many experiences, so we became shy.
One day, the lady passed away. A nice animal control officer came and took my whole family to the shelter, to keep us safe and take care of us. The shelter was a noisy, strange place, and we were scared. At first, we tried to run away from the people, but the kind shelter workers sat in the kennel with us and gave us treats and petted us. Gradually, we weren’t so scared.
Then a Keeshond Rescue lady from BARK came to the shelter, and took us on a long ride to our foster families. My sister and I went to a wonderful place! Our foster mom made us a special play area filled with toys, things to climb on, and new objects to see and explore. She called me Brave Girl because I would try new things first and overcome any reservations quickly.
My foster family has been helping me learn about the world, and my life is now full of adventures. I play with my foster family’s adult Keeshonden, and cuddle with my foster mom and dad. I’ve met many human visitors and have new doggie playmates. My foster mom gives me tasty things to try – watermelon, blueberries, carrots, and beef broth ice cubes! I love going on walks, playing in the wading pool, and relaxing in my crate at night. I’m learning basic skills, like “touch,” “sit,” “down,” “come,” “watch me,” and being brushed on the grooming table. While I’m still a bit shy, and the world is filled with, “What’s that?”, I’m comfortable with household sights and sounds, and I’m open to new experiences. I’m learning to wait and watch, and look to my foster mom and dad for cues and help. I’m not only brave, but very smart!
As you can see from my photos, I'm also growing into a pretty girl, with a fluffy, black and silver Keeshond coat.
I’m being fostered in the North Bay Area. I'm looking for a forever home in Northern California. I’ll do well with adults and teens. I’ve had positive experiences with young children, but due to my shyness, living with young children would be overwhelming for me. Another dog in my home would be a bonus, as I look to trusted role model dogs for help understanding my new, much larger world.
