My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Deputy was born to a stray Mom in a dilapidated abandoned shack.

Completely feral and terrified of humans the Mom could not and would not be caught. It was a freezing cold rainy January day when I first saw her litter of 14 huddled together in the corner of the abandoned house with no windows or doors. Too young to take, all we could do was leave food for the Mom each day hoping she would not leave or move her puppies. But she did move them numerous times. Sadly we continued to find dead puppies until one day they all disappeared. At age 4.5 months we were notified that 5 puppies were eating at the abandoned house. We recognized them by their markings and age. These pups were also feral by this time. But we could not leave them to live their lives as strays in a rural county with no animal control or shelter. Where they would likely be shot, poisoned or trapped to be used as bait dog's.

Three of Deputy's siblings have been adopted and are absolutely wonderful pets. Deputy and his brother Roscoe are still being fostered.

Deputy was always the most cautious boy of his litter. He is extremely smart and curious, wants to play and be included, but often at a distance. It's been a slow process to gain his trust. Deputy bears a striking resemblance to Paw Patrols "Chase." He has coonhound markings including the distinctive "pumpkin seeds" above his big sweet brown eyes. With a long basset hound shaped body, short legs, and adorable east/west facing chubby front paws.  Deputy is one of a kind and so stinking cute. Deputy is good with other dogs of all ages & sizes and has been introduced to cats but at a distance.
He's a healthy stocky boy with a lush shiny coat. He has the most expressive eyes. That tell me he wants to come closer but just needs to learn more trust and confidence.

Deputy will require a very patient adopter or foster home that is experienced with fearful dogs. His foster home currently has a lot of dogs, including a medical foster. They are managing so many personalities and dynamics they cannot give him the one on one attention he desperately needs. He absolutely needs a fenced yard. Dirt Road Doggie’s Rescue will provide everything he needs and our full support as he transitions to new surroundings. He is a terrific watch dog. Keenly aware and protective. He will be challenging. But like his siblings, once the barrier is lifted you will have an amazing little guy to love. Deputy needs a hero. ♥

Deputy is being lovingly fostered in Rutledge Ga.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

Adoption is a four part process.

Application: You will be required to submit general information along with personal and vet references.

Home visit: Potential adopters will receive a home visit by one of our members.

Meet -n- Greet: All family members (fur babies included) must meet the foster parent and pup they wish to adopt.

Here at Dirt Road Doggies Rescue, each adoption contribution is a flat rate per dog. We do not adjust this rate based on the "popularity" of a dog. We believe every dog is worthy of an owner that sees the value in them. Each adoption contribution is used to cover the expenses incurred for that dog and other dogs in our program.

Go meet their pets

Dirt Road Doggies Rescue, INC is located in the quaint town of Gillsville, in the foothills of the Georgia Mountains, just south of Gainesville. Our rescues are fostered in loving homes located in Hall, Jackson, and neighboring counties.

More about this rescue

We are a small canine rescue group located in Northeast Georgia that works tirelessly to rescue, rehabilitate, fully vet, and re-home faithful dogs that have been tossed out of cars onto rural roads. We are a registered, 501c3 tax deductible Non Profit Rescue and we are licensed by the Georgia Department of Agriculture

All dogs in our program have been previously reported to animal control to ensure they were not lost pups who had a family diligently looking for them. We do not turn a dog away due to breed, health concerns, or age. It is our goal to keep these dogs out of animal shelters, thus saving their lives and providing more time to the dogs already in shelters to find their forever family.
