Meet Bucky! This sweet gentleman has had a rough life as a small dog living outdoors. He was spotted by multiple people around town and survived on the streets thanks to a few kind Samaritans who left food and water out for him. Bucky was eventually rescued after a few failed attempts and was scanned for a microchip. It turned out that Bucky had an owner who was unaware Bucky was even missing. Since his previous owner currently works in Miami, Bucky was left with a caretaker who did not like dogs and did not report when Bucky went missing for a month. After discussing the extent of Bucky’s condition and malnourishment, Bucky’s previous owner decided it was best to surrender Bucky to rescue so he could get the medical care and groceries that he needs. Bucky has been with his foster for about a month and has made some slow improvements! He absolutely loves laying on his foster dad’s lap while he plays video games and serves up some serious puppy dog eyes when he wants more attention! We think he would love to be someone’s chill buddy. Although Bucky is still somewhat shy, he will spin circles when it is mealtime and will even get some short-lived, old man zoomies! His previous owner mentioned that Bucky did not like being yelled at, but who would?! Although he is still learning that it is okay to be a dog, he has NEVER tried to bite or growl out of fear. You can tell that this very sweet man just wants to be loved. Bucky also loves riding around the neighborhood in his stroller and he is also great on a leash! His previous owner mentioned that Bucky used to escape the yard all the time, but he has not tried to get out of the fence at his foster home. Bucky is fully potty trained and house trained. Since he is only 11 pounds, he will need supervision when he goes outside. When it comes to other dogs, Bucky is very polite and enjoys spending time around his foster siblings! He would do very well in a home with other dogs as long as they understand that he is an older, distinguished gentleman with arthritis. He enjoys playing with his foster siblings now that they have learned to be gentle. We think he would also make a great, only-dog companion to someone who wants a relaxing buddy! Bucky has also been tested around ferrets. While he thinks they smell bad and are not fun play mates, he mostly ignores them. However, Bucky would do best in a house without cats as he does chase them. It is possible that he could change this behavior with some positive reinforcement. Bucky is 12 years old according to his previous owner, and he has already been neutered. Bucky is currently being treated for a skin infection and takes gabapentin and carprofen as needed to manage his arthritis. It is important that Bucky gets both his heartworm and flea prevention every month since his flea allergies likely played a part in his skin infection. He appreciates no longer being so itchy all the time!
