My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

VISITORS LIMITED TO THOSE WHO HAVE SUBMITTED APPLICATIONS: https://lighthouseanimalshelter.org/dog-adoption-application/

--

4 year old, 50 lb. female
Pitbull Mix
Dogs: With a slow introduction, Zoe loves other pups and will do zoomies in the yard out of excitement. Her ideal home probably wouldn't take her to a dog park but she'd still like to spend time with dogs that she meets properly and is familiar with.
Cats: Zoe can live with cats who are tolerant of a playful pup.

Zoe is a smart, beautiful, sweet girl. When we first got her at Lighthouse, she was insecure meeting new people. The more that we’ve gotten to know her, she’s come out of her shell with regular volunteers and has shown us how loving and silly she can be. When she sees someone that she loves, her little nub tail doesn’t stop wagging and all she wants to do is for you to say hi to her and welcome her into your lap for snuggles. Once you have her trust, there is no turning back! She is loyal and will always greet you with a smile on her face.

Zoe is house trained and crate trained.

Zoe has been to professional training so she knows basic commands and also knows some fun ones like how to give a high five. Zoe's forever home should be understanding about her insecurity with new people and will want to continue with her obedience training so that when she does get scared, she will listen to you and know that she can trust you.

We do not adopt on a first-come-first-serve basis, but rather by the best match between dog and family, although we will factor in the order of applications if there are equally good matches.

Our adoption fee for adult dogs is $450 which covers the costs of vetting (spay, vaccinations, heartworm testing, preventatives while in our care, deworming and microchip) and any boarding or transport fees incurred in each dog's rescue. Senior dogs are $250.

More about this rescue

At Lighthouse Animal Shelter, an all volunteer, 501(c)3 organization, we promote the welfare of animals at risk of euthanasia. We also work with the community to maximize efforts in reducing pet overpopulation.

We rescue the majority of our dogs from high-intake shelters down south (the majority being from Kentucky, South Carolina & North Carolina) and get organize transport to our New Bedford shelter for adoption. We focus on last-call death row dogs.

The cats in our care are all local strays or surrenders and are generally adults to seniors.
