This sweet 3 year old girl is looking for her forever home 
.
Leena just returned from her 2 week board and train.
She is now as close as possible to the perfect big dog ! She loves sunning on the deck and playing in the yard ( she retrieves!)or will heel calmly by your side in the neighborhood . She now knows “place” and will stay in her spot while you unload groceries or take a cute picture . She has also learned thresholds and will wait until told ok to go through a door . She already knew sit, down, paw, wait, release , and on by . She has one more class ( to be scheduled)with Amanda at Happy Active Dog Camp with her new adopter to reenforce what she has learned .
Leena came into shelter care as a stray in 2019 and was soon adopted out . She returned in ‘21 as too much to handle for an expectant mother. She had been living with 2 other big dogs, a cat and 2 over 10 children. when she came back to the shelter .
Leena must have received training somewhere along the line as she already knew many commands. She will wait when her food is put down and has zero food aggression. She’ll even let me take a raw bone from her mouth .For a big , strong dog she walks at heel on a loose leash . She’s even gotten easy to handle when she sees a squirrel ! She would love to greet other dogs but will easily “on by” them or a nose greeting if allowed . Continued training with her though will be necessary to keep up her confidence . She would love another dog that would play with her if possible or soak up attention as an only dog .
She’s an easy house dog . I got a crate for her in case she needed it but she is actually just fine left free . A crate should be an option for her though when young or unfamiliar visitors are over.
She is not a counter surfer but you should still not leave dangerous items out . Crating ( not for super long stretches though ) will allow her to safely fully relax in a new home . Here she has earned full house privileges .
She loves having a big bed here where she keeps her toys and will easily go into her large crate(42”) if asked . Of course she would also be happy using your couch .
Leena is completely house trained and will let you know with a gentle woof if she needs to go out . She doesn’t have to ask often here though as she loves hanging out in the yard, chilling on the deck or actually retrieving balls you throw ! She does need toys designated for aggressive chewers as she quickly decimates a tennis ball …lol! I have gotten her a bunch of Kong toys . To keep her entertained I put various foods in her Kong or bone . I am also working on getting some puzzles for her .
The only downside that I have seen is fearfulness of strangers or new objects . ., not surprising though since she was at the shelter way too long . This has largely resolved .She was initially a bit afraid of cars passing by us on her walks and jumped back when a squirrel turned and confronted her…lol! She loves her neighborhood walks and I get lots of compliments on her good behavior . She pays little attention to joggers or people walking dogs.When I give her a command now to let her know I am in charge , not her, she is great and stays quiet when confronted with née people .. It only takes a few minutes for her to be offering wiggles and her tummy once properly introduced . It is a must though that introductions are slow and proper ! Only 4 days now with muzzle training and she already allows it to stay briefly stay on.
In the house Leena alerts me to Amazon packages being delivered or visitors but no other barking thank goodness! She makes me feel quite safe at home â¤ï¸.
Her recent 2 week board and train with Amanda has increased her self confidence and her general handling! She now knows “place” and will stay on her spot while you unload groceries or take a cute picture if her …lol. She also waits at the door to exit or enter . No escaping out an open door .
