Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Diamond Pearl (because she's a gem) was found running stray in a park in the Little Flower area at the beginning of the summer 2022. She was very thin to emaciated (~4 lbs) with nails so long she could hardly walk. Either she had been running stray a long time, which seems unlikely, or even worse, she was severely neglected by her previous owner and then dumped. During the course of her recovery, Diamond has gained back her weight; she is now 8.1 lbs. We're guessing her DOB is 12/20/2020.
Unfortunately, Diamond has bilateral grade 4 patella luxations (dislocated kneecaps). The Rescue had a consult with a veterinary surgeon who felt that it would be difficult, if not impossible to surgically correct her knees as the kneecaps have probably been out of place since she was a very young puppy. The condition can be painful, so she will need to take Carprofen (doggy Ibuprofen) and Cosequin Joint supplements for the rest of her life. She only takes 1/4 tablet of each once a day, so the cost will be minimal. As long as she gets her medication, she seems comfortable. Diamond runs in the backyard, jumps up on furniture, and plays with toys.
Diamond's shots are completely up to date, she's now spayed and has had a dental cleaning. She's crate trained (both eats and sleeps in her crate), and potty trained. However, she is just figuring out how to ask to go out. You may need to help her keep track and let her out every few hours if she doesn't ask.
Diamond is pretty nervous in new situations; she can be rather clingy when she's worried about something. She's very sweet and plays well with other dogs when she's not worried.
