My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Name: Archibald
Nickname: Archie. Archo.
Breed: Chihuahua mix
Age: ~ 8 months
Weight: ~ 10 lbs.
Before OMD: A good Samaritan rescued Archie from a home where he was being kept in a small bird cage and handled very inappropriately and teased by the kids. She then reached out to OMD and we got him into foster that same day.
Energy level: Play hard; nap hard. It’s all fun and games until it’s time for a recharge nap.
Affection level: The higher side of medium. He’s good to enjoy some time alone, but also happy to give kisses and snuggle.
Descriptors: Goofy. Curious. Playful. Happy.
The most important things to know: He is happy. He has a big personality in his little body. He is a good mood dude.
Doppelgängers: A cross between a Meerkat and a Thylacine. Google it if you don’t believe us.
Stranger-danger level: On the lower side for a Chihuahua. He will give a few barks at new people or dogs and needs a minute to warm up, then he's back to his happy self.
What we love most: The way his butt wiggles when he sees his favorite people. The wonky way he runs. How one ear is always up, and the other is always down.
What makes us laugh: When he stores food...and dust bunnies and leaves...in the side of his mouth like a chipmunk. When he trots around with his food bowl.
What he loves: Dog friends. Benebones. Chicken flavored treats. Monitoring the yard and neighborhood from the windows. Burrowing in blankets.
Known enemies: Water-based activities. The cold.
What he knows: Well, to be honest, nothing… but he’s food motivated so that’s something!
What he’s working on: Basic commands. Leash walking. Mouthiness/nibbling.
Kids: Yes! As long as the kiddo is dog savvy and can handle some excited nibbling at times, it could be a great fit. Archie has lived with a toddler before and was a big fan.
Dogs: Yes, but they should be able to tolerate a sometimes-fresh Chi (he’s an ankle nipper and a treat thief). Archie absolutely loves his foster siblings, though he doesn’t always like to share his meals with other dogs, so you’ll need to separate for meals.
Cats: Sure, but there may be some chasing when he's feeling bored
House-trained: 80% there.
Crate-trained: Almost perfect except an occasional accident in the crate.

Archibald is neutered, vaccinated, heartworm negative, and microchipped. He's available for adoption to residents of CT and surrounding states. If you are interested in adopting, please complete an application from omdrescue.org.
