We are proud to announce that River will soon be a graduate of the Paws in Prison program; an elite, intense training program that only the finest candidates may enter.
Arkansas Paws in Prison is committed to rehabilitating inmates and giving rescue dogs a second chance at life by preparing them to be loving, obedient, adoptable pets. The Arkansas Paws in Prison program pairs inmate trainers with rescue dogs for eight to ten weeks of obedience training and socialization in preparation for adoption. Prior to graduating from the program, each dog must pass the American Kennel Club’s Canine Good Citizen test. Because the dogs are properly socialized and trained, their chances of adoption improve drastically. Many of our program’s “graduates” have gone on to become therapy animals and service dogs, including the first water leak detection dog in North America.
We are currently accepting applications for adoption while she is in training.
There’s some very appealing about this baby...and it starts with her name. It’s River, and for a long, lean girl that seems to be a perfect fit. She is also extremely cute, and the cuteness starts with the dusting of white around her lips and on her toes and eyebrows. Yeah, those eyebrows are top tier…with the white hairs and those long whiskers, River almost looks like a sweet grandma dog who bakes cookies and puts pretty bows in your hair. But River is a puppy…she’s only 9 months old. She’s a mix, maybe of border collie and a couple of other breeds. This girl does have the brains, personality and sweetness of a border collie. She also smiles like one. I mean, come on, look at that little grin…don’t you just want to hug and squeeze her? She weighs 42 pounds now and will likely put on another 10-12 before she’s grown. River definitely is a dog on the way up…she’s going to do big things!!!
* The adoption fee of $475 includes age-appropriate vaccines, initial de-worming, spay/neuter surgery, microchip and transport fee.
