Kirby is considered a special needs dog, but that sure doesn't stop him from being a very loving dog! Kirby has a big big personality and that's one of our favorite things about him! Kirby has some vision loss, so may be best suited in a single level home (he is fine to do a few steps up and down).
Kirby would love to have another dog companion in his house that is understanding of his quirks and that can help him settle into a new routine. Kirby does not mind the felines in his current foster home, as long as they keep to themselves. Kirby is not a fit for a household with young children because he likes to jump up or use his paws to say hi. He has worked really hard on his learning that he doesn't have to worry about protecting his food bowl and does well when asked to go to his kennel for meal time. He does occasionally have accidents in the house, but when kept on a schedule and let out at regular intervals during the day he does just fine.
Kirby's adoption fee is $200 and includes his neuter, microchip, current vaccinations/preventatives and a free basic obedience course at Cedar Run Company in Hiawatha. Last Hope requires that all animals be altered, current on vaccinations/preventatives and kept as indoor pets only. We look for adopters to have a demonstrated history of providing comprehensive care for former/current pets and our adoption process includes a home visit, vet history check, background and reference checks. Please submit an adoption application for consideration through our website, Kirby has a discounted adoption fee of $200 because he is considered special needs.
