My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Marley (fka Mavy)!

Marley is an 8-month-old, gorgeous and friendly Retriever/ GSD mix.

Marley loves to hang with his people friends, and is very gentle and appropriate in his play with both people and dogs -- although he can be all in if playing with another young dog! Check out our Summit Dog Rescue Instagram page to see him playing with his 9-month-old friend, Ginger the Lab.

Marley is such a nice mix. We had his brother DNA-tested and they came back GSD/Golden Retriever. He looks like a Lab and has so many Retriever traits but also some of the intelligence and alertness of a GSD. He absolutely loves water and on each walk we try to find a stream or a lake for him to jump into and frolic.

He lives with a resident cat and is learning that the cat is not very interested in playing. When Marl is tired, he takes himself over to his dog bed and naps. He also enjoys toys. He is housetrained and will ring bells to go outside when needed. Like all puppies, he can chew - so it's important to give him appropriate chew items.

Marl had a rough start to life - spending five weeks in a pretty sad shelter in Missouri - but he's thriving with us, and so amazing. We have put a lot of work into this boy and he loves training and really thrives with it. He enjoys Sit, Down, Touch, Stay, attention to handler and "with me" on walks.

His ideal adopter would be someone who is active and ready for a big, strong adolescent who exudes joy and exuberance. We have lots of videos of him on our Instagram playing and romping. He is also incredibly soulful and snuggly.

Marls lives in a busy human home with people coming and going, and he has been social with all residents and visitors. He really loves people and has a heart of gold.

We're looking for more of a rural home environment for Marley, and ideally a home with a friendly resident dog (but not required, as long as he could have dog friends).

He LOVES being up in the mountains or hiking on local trails (Bobolink, Davidson Mesa, Joder) so a home with just a little land around it would be awesome for him.

As wonderful as he is, we don't think he would thrive in a dense suburban or urban area due to all the dogs barking and busy pressure these neighborhoods present.

We are being particular with where he goes because we want this incredible dog to be sucessful. Everyone in our rescue adores him, and he is a special soul. Whoever ends up with him will be lucky beyond words. He is a soulmate dog for sure.

He had a tough beginning and being a big, black dog he won't have a second chance if he is adopted, learns undesirable behavior and then is returned. It is the sad truth of our post-pandemic world right now - too many dogs and not enough good homes.

Sorry, no apartments or condos for this active boy.
