My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Copper is a special kind of dog: beautiful, strong, inquisitive, deeply loving, and an absolute goon. Just look at that face! He can be so nervous to start, but once he decides you are safe he is so loving and endearing. Copper is 3-4 years old and weighs 67 lbs. He loves to start his morning with rubs. He will roll around, throw his long lanky legs in the air, push his face into you, and stretch those big long legs out. He will grab a toy, show the other dogs in the house how great the toy is, and then add that toy to the cache of toys on his bed. This boy can run and do some serious zooms! He looks like an absolute dork, his legs go in every direction, but there is also a hidden grace to it.
He loves to lean into your legs while you rub his side and chest. He will stick is big old nose in your face and on occasion give little soft kisses. His awesome personality just can’t be shown in pictures. He is so funny, sweet and sensitive. He is an awkward goof who has no idea how big he is. There is zero aggression in Copper; even when he is scared, he just wants to get away from whatever is scaring him. He has such a soft heart. Copper is pretty good on a leash. He adores all dogs, and shines brightest when there are other dogs in the home to show him how to behave and play. He desperately wants to play with his foster’s cat, but will leave her alone after a few swats or redirection to a toy— he just wants to play so badly! We are requiring a minimum 6-ft fenced yard to ensure he has enough room to run, exercise, and play outside.
Copper is afraid during thunderstorms and needs a safe place to go during a storm. He does not do well with yelling of any kind; if you are too commanding he will shut down. He needs a quiet home with people who believe in force free training. He does so well when you are patient and give him treats and let him explore his boundaries in his own time.
It has been a joy to see his trust grow, and along with his trust his willingness to listen on command. Copper is heartworm positive but is on a slow-kill protocol and will test negative in no time. If you live in the Central Florida (Orlando) area and believe you can give Copper the wonderful life and home he deserves, apply today.
