My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Intake Date: 3 May 2022 ----- Age at intake: 11 yrs aka 83 yrs ----- Breed: English Springer Spaniel ----- Size: 45 lbs ----- Status: Owner surrender, Retired Hunting Companion/Professional ----- Compatible with: Other dogs, cats, children, livestock, everything but birds. ----- Suitable for: home with a securely fenced yard. ----- Medical/Behavioral Needs: Sterile by nature. Has had a hip and knee surgery. Deaf. But a heck of a nose ----- Additional Notes: Do you see this boy? This is Ghillie. Let's talk about Ghillie. He is a helluva English Springer with the bloodline to boot. His dam came from Scotland. Ghillie is registered and professionally trained as a bird hunter. He was a valued family member of a hunting guide family however, due to his age and condition, they made the right decision to retire him from his passion to find his leisure home. Here is what will not only be expected but REQUIRED of that home. His retirement home MUST have lots of beds for him and stuffed toys. Ghillie must be given unlimited couch access if he can jump up. :) He MUST be taken on car rides to small fields or pastures where he can "hunt" and fulfill his purpose. He may be slower, he may be deaf, but he is still passionate. He uses a vibration collar for recall since he cannot hear. He also has very few teeth so retrieving is quite difficult if his bird is not dead. It will just slip out and run off...which makes him feel quite defeated. His family MUST shake his paw. He won't allow it any other way. They also must love hugs. He must be taken to lakes to swim OR be given his own pool access to swim. His new family must love dogs, and old dogs. They must be ready to spoil and ready to make his last years the best they can possibly be. They also MUST keep in touch with his previous family as they are heartbroken but selfless enough do to what is best for Ghillie. And it was NOT best for Ghillie to have him sit home and watch all of the younger dogs go out on the guided hunts. He just can't keep up so they wanted to make sure he found the best of the best homes to retire in. And we will make sure that happens. If you have ANY doubt about the awesomeness of these dogs, ask any of our previous adopters who have adopted one of these retired Springers and they will tell you. No dog is better. Oh, one last thing, he cannot be and will not be neutered. He is very old BUT also, because he is 100% sterile by nature. So no need to put him through that. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- If interested in meeting and potentially adopting please read the adoption requirements and complete the adoption application located at forbellessake.org. Once processed and approved a meet and greet can be scheduled and if a match an adoption is finalized at that time. FBS standard adoption fee is $175 and all dogs are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, dewormed, and treated for any known medical needs. Breeds are not guaranteed but often a best guess. Housetraining is not guaranteed but crate training is worked on with all residents. If a yard is present, a secure fence is mandatory.
