Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Dallas (M) is an 1yo Shepherd Husky mix. He is currently living with his foster parents and canine foster sister.
Dallas is house and crate trained. Dallas can take a few minutes to settle when crated, especially if there is activity. Outside his crate he is a happy curious boy and likes to live life to the fullest! He can be excited meeting new people and jump up, but with proper guidance and boundaries knows that he can't get away with this behaviour with everybody. He is looking for a furever home that can be firm that jumping up is not appreciated, and he will get plenty of love with 4 on the floor. Dallas loves everyone he meets, young and old!
Dallas pulls on leash but is learning to walk well on transitional and focus on his people. He likes to follow his nose on walks and doesn't have any handler focus at this time, so he will pull when his nose or something interesting catches his attention. Dallas is going back to basics with leashed walks and does best with lots of figure 8s and follow the leader exercises. He is learning to focus on his person and ignore other wonderful sights and sounds, but does need reinforcement. Dallas really is a happy go lucky puppy who just wants to explore the world!
Dallas is very playful and loves training! While he is very high energy and could turn into a high endurance athlete with hours and hours of physical exercise, mental exercises tire him out quickly and he needs a home that can commit to daily training and mental stimulation. He is smart and picks up new commands quickly. Dallas is quite overweight so he is building a better food drive. Currently he is food motivated, but will pass on food if he thinks something else looks like more fun. With a bit of a diet, working for direction and an owner committed to training will be a very well adjusted boy!
Dallas does have some puppy habits that he needs to be held accountable for, including mouthing, jumping up, digging, chewing and pulling on leash. He needs a firm but fair owner who will dedicate time into his training. Dallas is an amazing boy with structure and boundaries, but if he gets too much freedom and he is bored he will chew or dig. With well timed corrections Dallas learns the rules very quickly.
Dallas is great with dogs, although he is used to dog parks and has a big and rough play style that not all other dogs appreciate. Dallas needs firm boundaries set and a leader who can step in when play is getting too adrenalized, and time outs to reset and calm down. He can be great with some dog friends, but needs to learn to be respectful and that not all other dogs appreciate his behaviour. Dallas is currently living with an older foster sister who doesn't want to play with him, and his foster mom is keeping him on leash in the house for his first few weeks till he learns to leave her alone.
Dallas previously lived with cats but we were told that he would chase them. He has not been around smaller people, but does love everybody he meets. Dallas may do better with older children who can participate in training and be a leader, as he is pushy with people who cannot reinforce boundaries. Dallas is a high energy puppy and needs a firm handler who can show him what is acceptable behaviour and what is not. He would do best with confident children who can help shape his training, or no children at all.
