Our sweet little girl Poppy is available for adoption. This little sweet pea was found as a stray in Texas when she was just a puppy. Her interactions with humans when she was a baby, were not very pleasant. When Poppy first came in, she was scared and afraid of everything. Her foster family worked hard to get her ready for her forever home. We thought she had it too. Sadly her daddy passed away and her mama could not care for her the way she wanted. It broke her mama's heart, but she decided it was best to return Poppy to us and find a more suitable home for her. A loving, kind, patient home that could continue to help Poppy blossom into a more secure dog.
Poppy has been back with us for almost 2 months. She has definitely become comfortable in her foster home. We have learned that this baby absolutely LOVES belly rubs and will beg for them. She loves to sit on the couch and watch tv with her foster mom,m. At night, she sleeps right at the foot of the bed, or in her own bed on the floor. Poppy absolutely loves her foster mama! When her foster mama comes home from work or even taking out the trash, Poppy is jumping with excitement. All four feet off the ground. Poppy cannot contain herself. The glee of seeing her mom radiates through her body. She is a girl who is nervous around new people and will follow the lead of the other dogs in her foster home. Once Poppy trusts you though, you will have a shadow for life. She never leaves her foster mama's side. When out together, Poppy will look at her for reassurance that new people are ok. She needs someone who will continue to positively socialize her. Poppy is completely crate trained and is learning to walk well on a leash. She has a doggy door in her foster home and will go outside to potty, just like a good girl! As she transitions into a new home, accidents are expected. But the constant routine will help her to become accustomed to her new life.
Poppy does get along well with most dogs. She does not like the crazy, playful, high energy, in your face type of dog. She prefers older dogs that will give her the space she needs to relax but at the same time will teach her that her new family is going to be okay. We have also learned that she does not like the company of large dogs. Her ideal home would be with a quiet couple, that has a smaller (under 30 pounds) dog. A fenced-in yard is required. Please no electric fences. Poppy is a flight risk and we do not want to take any chances when it comes to dogs that are afraid of people. If they get loose, dogs like Poppy will not go to new people and will be hard to get back.
If you think you have the right home to help Poppy continue to build her confidence, please make sure you apply. Poppy has so much love to give you won’t be disappointed and you will never feel unloved once the trust is there.
Poppy is spayed, up to date with vaccines, microchipped, flea/worm treated and tested neg. for heartworm. Her adoption fee is $400
