Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Bogie is on the search for his person that he can stick to for life. He takes his shadowing duties very seriously and he is one very smart, handsome guy.
Bogie is 60 lbs and is estimated to be around 2-3 years of age. He is Heartworm Negative and on prevention. He is fully up to date on vaccines, Neutered and Microchipped.
Bogie's needs are-
#1: Herding breed Experienced
#2: Willingness to continue working on his training for reactivity.
He is not an aggressive dog at all but appears to have missed out on proper exposure experiences (Most likely a Covid pup raised during the shutdown) which has resulted in reactivity when he feels overwhelmed in busy public environments. With the plan we have in place after meeting with a certified trainer, he has made improvements but will need continued work.
#3: Stay at home adopter- be it work from home PERMANENTLY or retired.
He will not handle long hours alone.
#4: Fully fenced yard.
#5: No children under 12 years.
This is due to Bogie being very much like a puppy in a big dog body.
When playing, he has a tendency to forget his large size and is still learning to not be mouthy.
#6: No cats or small dogs as he has a high prey drive.
#7: He does great with the dogs in his foster home and is very, very playful with them.
However, with his reactivity, he needs someone that will understand introductions must be handled slowly.
We do feel he would acclimate in best with young playful females vs. males.
He would also be fine as an only dog as long as his person is up for the challenge of being solely responsible for meeting his energy needs.
Keep reading if you fit the above requirements to learn more about Bogie-
Bogie is a medium energy, HIGH velcro, food motivated, extremely smart and affectionate boy.
He is playful but also has an off button and enjoys couch cuddles or snoozing within sight distance of his person.
He loves car rides and playing fetch.
Ball is life to this guy!
He is highly intelligent and with that comes some stubbornness but he catches on very quickly with the right communication from his person.
He just needs someone experienced in how herding breeds think and someone that will be firm enough to give him direction on what is acceptable behavior and what isn't.
With the proper guidance, this guy can go places. Including the possibility of being an obedience prospect, according to his trainer.
Bogie already knows the commands for-
Sit, Down, Wait, Come, Rollover and shake.
He walks well on leash and sits patiently to have his harness and leash fastened.
He will even wait until released with a treat balanced on his nose.
Bogie truly thrives on time spent with his people and is a total sponge for learning new skills.
He loves to work his mind!
He is fully house trained, not one single accident in his foster home.
Have we mentioned how smart he is!?!
He will load and unload from the car on his own.
He loves his people big and will be your constant shadow.
While in foster he has made improvements on both the reactivity and separation anxiety.
We have a plan set in place by a certified trainer that will need to be kept consistent to help him continue to make progress.
Fully fenced yard is a must as he loves to have a safe space to run and play ball.
