Please note that because all of our dogs live in foster homes, we are unable to set up meetings with a dog unless we have a completed adoption application on file. Adoptions must be about an hour of Wilmington, DE in order for our volunteers to be able to conduct an in person home visit.
Meet Pierre. This 12yo+ Poodle Mix came to us as a surrender at the Delaware SPCA. He was skinny, frail and afraid. After a few good meals, a few good baths and lots of love he came out of his shell. He is older and likes to take naps but loves to explore the outdoors. He gets so happy to see us now and has this little bounce run. He has limited vision and hearing, but do not fear his nose works just fine! He loves to eat and will invite himself into sharing anyone’s food. He can not go down steps very well but is able to go up the three steps we have in the back yard. Overall his health is really good. He had a mass removed from his chest (non cancerous) and two teeth removed during his dental cleaning. We believe he was owned by an older person who we don’t think properly potty trained him. He will require someone who can put him on a potty schedule they can keep up with while he gets fully trained. We believe that he may not always know he has to go until it is too late. Sometimes he will hang out by the door for you to let him out. Other times he will come in from going out and stop mid-stride and pee. We just have not had him long enough to be sure. His cues are subtle. We keep a male diaper on him when he is inside. He may go through 4-7 a day. We tried the washable ones but he soaks right through them. We give him baths at least once a week and wipe him down with a washcloth or baby wipe as needed to prevent a diaper rash.
This little guy is a joy and has lots of love to give. He has gotten along great with the other dogs at his foster home. They taught him where the kitchen is and where the food is made. He also quickly discovered that if you sit there and look all hungry and sad there may be a chance mom or dad may need a food tester. He has gotten into the trash can twice so far. Use caution if your trash can is accessible and has food in it. He is just so lovable. That little bouncy run is beyond adorable. He is not a big cuddler but loves getting pet scratches behind his ears. He rarely barks, however he does make little noises in his sleep. He has been such a joy to have around. It is time for him to find his forever home.
