My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Quinn loves her person to no end. She’s a GREAT companion...and we mean AMAZING. Playing with her is an amazing experience! She retrieves, plays tug and keep-away. She’s great on leash. Quinn's foster home has other dogs, but she doesn't seek the other dogs out for play. She is really just all about her person/people, so would be a great only dog. She’s beautiful, loving and very cuddly. She greets every morning with a big hug! She is not a barker. She prefers a couch to a kennel and enjoys a car ride. Quinn is a consistent 48lbs. She’s a pretty calm girl with med/low energy except when excited about a leash or a toy. She can be over enthusiastic about greeting new people, but we can tell you more about how to do that properly. She's a smart girl, so best suited for someone smarter than her (has dog savvy or experience). Quinn was nearly euthanized at the shelter and we are SO glad we saved her. We are in LOVE with Quinn. She will make someone very happy. She'd be great with a person, a couple or family with older kids - just as long as it's the right fit!

  1. Meet the Adoption Criteria. Before you do anything else, make sure you meet our adoption criteria. You must be at least 21 years old. You must live within a 60-mile radius of Richardson, Texas. You must share veterinary records for all pets currently in your home and all pets owned in the last five years. All pets in the home must be spayed or neutered. If you rent your home, you must provide verification that pets are allowed on the property. You must be willing to be interviewed by an adoption counselor and you must undergo a home visit from an RHS representative.

  2. Apply. You can complete an application at an MTP event or complete it online by either clicking the button below or the “Adopt” button beneath the pet’s photo in the listings above.

  3. Phone Interview or Attend a Meet the Pets (MTP) event. This is a great opportunity to meet the pet you are interested in and see if you connect. We hold these events once a month on Saturday from 1:00-3:00 p.m. We post the pets who are expected to attend on Friday evening on our Facebook page. For exact details and locations, view our event calendar. If an event is over a week away, a counselor may contact you for a phone interview.

  4. Home Visit. If all the steps above are completed satisfactorily, we will set up a home visit where you can meet the pet you are interested in again and the pet can meet other pets in the family. We will try to send the foster parent so you can learn more about how the pet is in a home environment.

  5. Complete Adoption. If all feel it is a good match, we will schedule the adoption at MTP or an off-site location. The applicant will need to complete the adoption contract and pay the adoption fee. Our adoption fee is $250 for adult dogs, $300 for puppies (under 1 year) and $125 for cats. Discounts are available for senior-aged pets.

More about this rescue

Richardson Humane Society was chartered as a 501(c)3 Non Profit Texas corporation in 2000. We are an all volunteer group and have grown to more than 100 volunteers. As of 2019, we have rescued and re-homed over 2400 homeless pets.

Mission Statement
The purpose of this society is to rescue and re-home adoptable pets, educate our community regarding the prevention of cruelty to animals, the promotion of animal population control through advocation of spay/neuter programs, and the extension of humane education.

It is the policy of the society to provide humane care and treatment for animals needing protection in the area served by the society; to seek to return lost animals to their owners; to seek suitable homes for animals without owners; to promote spay/neuter in the community; to encourage a network of foster homes for adoptable animals, to aid in encouraging adequate conditions in our city shelter and to educate this community in living with their pet and being responsible pet owners, i.e.-education on health, training and behavioral care, as well as ways to recognize abuse, neglect or cruelty. In its care and disposition of animals, the society shall maintain the highest level of care and integrity in placement, care and education.

We will be active in our community educating the children in our schools, bringing the community together with fundraisers and pet friendly events and ensuring each pet owner has all the resources/information necessary to care for their pet.
