Caper is a small petite Malinois who came to SDF via the Burbank Animal Shelter. She has been living with a staff member for several months and this is her description of Caper:
This dog is just SO MUCH FUN. She is extremely handler focused and just so smart. The most important thing in the world to her is just being with her human and following their every cue.
She has lots of obedience training and she is great off leash. Other than that--she's pretty much a blank slate, ready to do whatever you want with her. She is crate-trained and does very well being left at home in a crate. She as a lot of toy drive--loves to tug. Great drop. Always has a clean grip in the middle of the tug. Loves ball retrieves as well. She's honestly just a blast to play with: extremely athletic and intense. Her hunt drive has blossomed, and she has a great hunt! I think she would love to do nosework.
Caper Likes to Leap!
Big crowds and chaos make her a little nervous, although she's gained a lot of confidence. She is not reactive to new people, but she has no interest in being pet by strangers and she is suspicious of strange guests in the home. She gets to know new people by playing with them, and she'll play with anyone! With people she knows well she's extremely tolerant of handling, I can trim her nails, bath her, open her mouth, etc., and she tolerates all of it. She's extremely affectionate and loves to cuddle.
On leash, she is dog reactive, but we've been working on this and she's made so much progress! Off leash, its a different story. She's done very well with any dog she's met. She loves to play with other dogs, she can be really pushy in play but listens great to corrections. She lives with my 11-year old dog and she just adores him and is so gentle with him!
Caper's perfect home would be someone looking for an active companion to hike with, go to the beach with, and most importantly--play with! Or a sport home that understands her dog reactivity may prevent her from thriving at all sports (for now at least.)
Wherever she goes she just needs continued love, structure, and training!
