My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Born Dec 27/2021, Pebbles is a 4 month Bernese Mountain Dog/Border Collie mix puppy.
Her approximate adult weight is expected to be around 80-90lbs.

Please read her entire profile before applying.
You MUST submit an adoption application prior to being considered , see instructions at the bottom of this profile.

Pebbles is now available for adoption, on a non-breeding/mandatory spay contract due to her young age. Pebbles spay surgery will be paid for by Hobo Haven rescue at our vet clinic located in Arthur ON.

Pebbles joined our rescue as the last of her litter, unsold due to her umbilical hernia, which will be easily repaired at our expense during her spay surgery.

She is not an ideal match for senior dogs or young children in her home due to her size and bouncy energy.
With a potential life expectancy with her breed mix of 10 to 15 years, Pebbles is not a suitable match for older senior owners.

Due to her young age and ongoing housetraining and mental stimulation needs, her adoptive family should be someone working from home or home often to meet her needs.

Pebbles would do well in a home with a dog she can play with. Although she is a snuggly dog, she does love to play so having a friend for her in the home would be great for her
Although Pebbles has been exposed to cats and she doesn't try to play with them, she will run after them if they run away from her so a home with dog savvy cats may be fine but not cats who would not appreciate her puppy energy.

Because Pebbles is in the Guardian Breed Group, she will need to have a family that understands her need to be able to watch, process and think about her environment without trying to force her to be different, a confident human to ensure that she doesn't always feel the need to be "on guard".

She is great on a leash, however she is still young and will need to continue to be allowed sniffy walks so that she gets the enrichment she needs on her walks. She loves her food puzzle toys and loves chewing things apart. She is in the chewing stage so being sure she has appropriate chews and supervision is really important.

Notes from her foster mom:
Pebbles is a sweetheart of epic proportions. She is an incredible mix of sassy and snuggly. Energetic and loving.

She is a big bouncy love bug! She is a puppy that is a great mix of play and snuggle. She greets (by barking) and will follow you around (but doesn't bite at your ankles). Pebbles loves her food and will do just about anything you ask for a tasty treat. She is quick to learn and loves both treats and bum rubs as rewards.

We are still working on barking and toilet training. She is a lovable little goofball who is a sponge for learning. She does like to be outside and loves to lay on the porch to watch life happen so as she matures, she'll definitely need to be able to do that as well.

If there are children in the home, they must be taught how to respect her space, and ask Pebbles if she wants to be petted and listen when she doesn't. Because she is so cute and fluffy, they will want to touch, squeeze and / or hug her but it will be super important that everyone understands and respects boundaries.

She does not like when people or dogs come close to her food bowl. She hasn't growled or vocalized (yet) but she will move her body to "block" the person / dog from moving toward her bowl / licky mat. I only remove her dish / licky mat once she walks away from it completely. She does not redirect onto her handler when she's on a leash and allows petting all over her body for grooming, nail clipping, etc.

Pebbles loves to be outdoors, but of course requires supervision at all times.

Meeting new people on walks, her tail doesn't stop wagging and her little wiggly body doesn't stop moving. She does bark but in greeting (which she does when I come home, first thing in the morning when getting out of her crate, etc.).
She will approach people with her tail easily wagging, loose body and bouncy!

Pebbles happily goes into her crate for sleep (I do throw a treat into her crate for her) and she settles quickly.

Notes:
*Registration with a positive method, approved training school/trainer is mandatory for this dog to continue with her training, socialization and to help set her up for success in her forever home/future.
*Children must be over the age of 10, respectful and dog savvy, with parental supervision required at all times.
This is not a breed to be a first dog for children or adults, so we are only considering families with previous experience owning and training dogs.
*A fully fenced yard is mandatory for Pebbles. She is not suitable for apartment or condo life.
*Must be located within Ontario Canada and willing/able to return to Arthur ON for her spay surgery appt
*Pools and ponds must be separately fenced from yard

Hobo Haven is located in St Jacobs Ontario.
For approved families, we require two in person meetings in St Jacobs ON
If you are not willing to drive to this location to meet our dogs after you are approved, please do not apply. We do not meet elsewhere nor deliver dogs.

Pebbles adoption fee is a minimum donation of $650. Adoption fees include spay, hernia repair, microchip, age appropriate vaccinations, deworming, flea/tick prevention, pre-op bloodwork and any medical treatments required during their time with us.

For anyone possibly interested in adopting from Hobo Haven, here are a few, but not all, criteria to be aware of:

We require all serious applicants to watched "Petfooled" which is a free documentary at this link https://tubitv.com/movies/494913/pet-fooled
, or on Amazon prime or also a variety of other free video sites.

Our motto is "know better/do better" and we ask all adoptive families to be as committed to providing our dogs with quality nutrition as they are to providing love. This documentary is not advertising, purely just educational.

An adoption application must be completed and approved, including vet references as well as a home visit (Zoom during COVID), prior to meeting available dogs.
All dogs are placed in loving foster homes during their time with us, we do not have a shelter to visit.
We do not allow applicants to visit until pre-approved for adoptions. Our dogs are in private foster family homes, not in a shelter.
Any questions may be emailed to hobohavenpetrescue@gmail.com

Due to the high volume of applications received for our dogs, priority of replies will be given to applicants who meet the criteria mentioned in the pet's profile.

Please do not ask us to make exceptions, we set these protocols and policies for the dog's best interests which are always our highest priority.

Emails are best, our volunteers work full time and are often not able to answer or return phone calls in a timely manner
