Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Lady (F) is an 1yo German Shepherd. She is currently living with her foster mom, a canine foster sister, and 2 cats.
Lady is house and crate trained. Lady is a busy girl from a working breed, and does take 5 minutes to shut her brain off when its time to relax. When she first came into careThis may look like whining, digging or barking before settling if she is not corrected. Lady doesn't fuss about visitors, but will occasionally get worked up and whine if there is high activity in the house. She has had two accidents in her foster home, but with consistency understands the routine. She may have accidents adjusting to a new home.
Lady loves all people, although she's still working on some puppy habits like jumping up and mouthing. She is learning very quickly that jumping up is a no-no, and that she can't mouth while getting brushed or getting her paws wiped. She used to live with children and is good with them, although as with any high energy working breed, she could knock over small kids. Lady also chews like a puppy, and needs a lot of supervision when not crated to make good chewing choices, like bones over shoes!
Lady is very social and great with other dogs. She reads cues well and will leave them alone if they show teeth. She does try to initiate play even when other dogs aren't interested, so sometimes she needs a reminder to let sleeping dogs lie. She does not fixate and is redirected easily. She doesn't play much with her foster sister, but has a canine best friend with a similar energy level in her neighbourhood that she loves to wrestle and play with!
Lady has never been on leash before coming into care and is learning the expectations. She does want to pull harder when she hits the end of the leash, but she is learning to check in with her handler and walk well on the transitional leash. Lady is a very smart girl and learns quickly! In a few short days she has already learned "break" as a release word, crate on command, sit, and is working on "place" and loose leash walking! She is very food motivated and with direction and an owner committed to training will be a very well adjusted girl! Lady does have some pre-disposition to leash reactivity, and needs an adopter that is committed to working with her from day one to prevent behaviors from developing.
Lady has taken several short car trips and is great in the car! She does move around a bit, but overall isn't too distracting. She has been on a few fun adventures and loves any new activity, but isn't a fan of the bathtub! She is also quite wiggly and looses her patience for grooming quickly, so she would do best with several short grooming sessions or lots of positive reinforcement while grooming to learn to relax. She is a funny girl and likes to drink from the faucet while having a bath, or eat hair as it flies off her while grooming.
Lady is a typical German Shepherd and can be wary of new things and new dogs, but warms up quickly with a proper introduction. She is very smart, but at this time is in the "explore" puppy stage where she is pushing the boundaries to see what she can get away with, and would likely bolt off leash if given the opportunity. With food as a reinforcer, Lady is learning to turn around and return to her people when she hits the end of her long line, but this will need more reinforcement in her furever home. Lady is very pushy about the rules and can sometimes ignore verbal corrections, but does very well with spatial pressure. Lady has recently been trying to explore the kitchen or bathroom countertops, and needs to be watched at all times to correct this behaviour before it becomes a habit.
This is what her foster mom has to say about her:
"Very pushy, stong-willed puppy. Always likes to be busy. Not interested in pleasing her people at this age/stage, but very sweet. Likes company outdoors in the yard - not independent yet. Not very affectionate, but likes people."
