My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Available for Adoption in NJ - Jasper is a male black tri Australian Shepherd. He is neutered, 20 months old, and UTD on preventatives and vaccinations.

Jasper would suit a person, couple or family with older teenage children. A house where someone is home most of the day, ideally located in the countryside, or suburban area with a fenced-in yard. He is good on his own, but would benefit from another dog for play and to learn from.

Jasper is a very handsome boy who is very loving to his family. When he initially came into foster care, he was very anxious around strangers, new places, any sudden movements, noise and he was reactive to anyone who came closer than 20ft. Over the past 6 weeks, with continuous positive re-enforcement, exposure to different environments, socialization with people and dogs, his reactiveness is mostly gone. It is still a work in progress; he can take a little longer to get comfortable with certain people or places.

He is medium energy for an Aussie, he does need activity and after he has burnt off some energy, he is happy to settle down. He is housetrained and will tell you when he needs to go out. He is reluctant to jump onto any furniture and is happy to lie on the floor, rug or carpet. He hasn’t taken any interest in lying on a dog bed or going into a crate/kennel. He does not suffer from separation anxiety or bark when you leave him for any period of time and has not needed to be crated/kenneled when left alone. He has not tried to chew or destroy anything, other than his chew toys. He settles down until you return and will either happily greet you or stay where he is until you go to him.

He is solidly improving his social skills with other dogs and with their owners and he loves to go to the dog park and meet with dogs he knows and plays with. He has been extremely good with small dogs and enjoys soft, gentle play with them. He enjoys walks with other dogs alongside of him and is not aggressive. He has not been cat tested. He is very treat and toy motivated and loves praise, cuddles and belly rubs. He likes chew bones and bully sticks.

Needs Work on: He can be anxious around bicycles, it depends on how quick, where they are coming from and how close they get. He needs to continue socialization with people.
Not good with: Pre-teenage children, Jasper was surrendered by his previous owner due to not getting along with children.

Jasper is an overall loveable boy who will thrive in the right environment. If you think that you are the perfect fit for Jasper, please fill out our applicaiton:
