My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

“People where you live,` the little prince said, `grow five thousand roses in one garden... yet they don`t find what they`re looking for...And yet what they`re looking for could be found in a single rose...` And the little prince added, `But eyes are blind. You have to look with the heart.” - Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, `The Little Prince`. My name is Razzmatazz. If you’ve seen my name before, it’s because I’ve been here a while. I came from a hoarding situation in April 2022. I’m one of the “Crayola Cats.” The color “Razzmatazz” is a crimson-rose. That’s too jazzy for a kitty like me, but a rose is a beautiful flower. I’m a 6-year-old black female, who, like the many other cats who lived in that home, is very shy around people, but I was adopted six months later. My person tried to make me feel at home, and I was making a bit of progress. I was playing some and accepting petting while I ate. But because I’m not outwardly affectionate or a snuggly lap cat, I was returned this January. I do enjoy the company of other cats. Staff have seen me playing with a kitten named Clover, and often adult cats don’t have that kind of patience! I love sitting in the window with other cats, and on occasion, I will let a human get close to me when I’m relaxing. I was called Cookie in my home, but no matter what you call me, I am a sweet girl who deserves to be in a loving home. Are you a patient person who can give me all the space and time I need to feel comfortable? I would do best with another cat, maybe my kitten friend Clover. Look with your heart. See ME. Razzmatazz. A single, unique rose. As it says in “The Little Prince,” “It`s the time you spent on your rose that makes your rose so important...People have forgotten this truth, but you mustn`t forget it. You become responsible forever for what you`ve tamed. You`re responsible for your rose.” Spend quiet time in the presence of Razzmatazz. Sense my gentle nature with your cat-whisperer’s heart.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

Paws and Claws Humane Society (PCHS) is a non-profit, mostly volunteer organization that rescues and shelters homeless cats and dogs until they can be adopted into their “forever” homes. We want our clients to understand that adopting and animal is a lifetime responsibility and commitment to that animal.

All prospective adopters must show (at the time of adoption) a valid drivers license or other acceptable identification to verify their name, address, and age. Adopters must be 18 yrs of age. Children under the age of 12 years old need to be present at time of viewing shelter cats or dogs.

After submitting an application, there is generally a processing period of 1-3 days in order to complete all pre-adoption checks and paperwork before an adopter may take possession of the animal.

More about this rescue

Paws and Claws Humane Society is committed to partnering with the community to shelter, protect, and seek adoptive homes for abandoned or lost companion animals.

We have served Southern Minnesota for over 30 years and we are the largest shelter in the 8 surrounding counties that does not limit the length of stay for the animals in its care.

Paws & Claws is funded completely on donations and fundraising events and receives no federal, state, county or city funds. We currently have nearly 900 dues paying members.

Paws & Claws has a community fund to help pay for the spaying and neutering of companion animals for those who cannot afford it.

We give over 40 tours and presentations annually, educating the public [including over 400 children] about proper animal care and the importance of spaying and neutering companion animals to help control the pet population in Southern Minnesota.

We have over 110 families that participate in the Guardian Angel Program [sponsoring animals] each month.

Paws & Claws will take in an injured animal and get the emergency medical care that it requires.

Local veterinarians in and around Rochester help Paws & Claws by providing over 145 free spay or neuters each year.

In a typical year the shelter will facilitate adoptions and provide care for over 600 dogs and cats.
