Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Kitkat is an adult female syrian hamster and is a ball of energy that never stops moving. She's quite friendly but sometimes she doesn't want to be picked up or held because she has many places to be and is in a hurry to get there. It was hard to get good pictures of her since she's almost never still!
She was rescued in January 2022 and, in typical female syrian fashion, is very particular about her enclosure's environment. She wants all of the space and all of the things. If she is housed in an enclosure that she feels is too small or doesn't suit her tastes she very quickly begins to display strong stress behaviors. For this reason Kitkat is currently being housed in a large tank with a secure lid. She also has very frequent time outside of her tank in a playpen to burn off all this energy she has. Small Pet Safe House strongly advises against the use of exercise balls and suggests a playpen as it is a much safer alternative.
Kitkat enjoys most veggies, though she turns her nose up at kale and cauliflower, as well as strawberries and blueberries. She also very much loves cheese and chicken for her proteins. Hamsters at our rescue are fed Higgins Sunburst as their seed mix as well as Mazuri Rat and Mouse Lab Blocks.
