Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Name: Hippo
Breeds: Pit Bull Mix
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Male
Size: Large
Remember the emaciated pittie mix we got from local animal control back in December? Well, Hippo is back with us. Hippo was a shy, sweet, fairly chill guy and no surprise when he gained weight he is showing his puppy side. Typical of bully breeds he is stubborn and will test his limits, so needs an adopter that will set firm boundaries with him right away. He has been through bootcamp at The K9 Coach, so he is obedient and knows a variety of commands. He does still have some stranger danger issues from not being well socialized as a puppy and neglected. Due to his insecurity, he will bark and sometimes growl at new people. He does warm up quickly with treats. He did great in his previous foster home with this by being kenneled if people were coming over for the first 10-15 minutes. Once he saw the other dogs being comfortable around people he would take cues from them and learn to be ok with those people. He is potty trained and crate trained. He is good with other dogs and was fine with cats in his previous foster home. He is a pup that will benefit from more daily structured exercise than his current owner is able to give to him and a confident owner that will help him get over his insecurities with firm boundaries and love. Since he has had basic obedience, we will not require a course for him but will require that his adopter have a single in home training session set up with a trainer just to learn techniques to ensure he thrives in his forever home.
Requirements: One in-home training session required
Adoption Fee: $400 + tax. This includes neuter/spay, current vaccinations as age appropriate, heartworm/tick testing in dogs over 8 months of age, deworming, microchip and current Heartgard and Nexgard preventatives.
