My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Update: Layla got some very disappointing medical news this week and we are hoping to find her a home ASAP! She’s going BLIND! 😞

Only 5 years old, our little spitfire recently started acting a bit off and bumping into things when taken out of her familiar environment, and a vet exam revealed she is experiencing some vision loss. While we can’t say for sure, based on her symptoms and progression the vet suspects either PRA or SARDS, both of which generally progress to full blindness pretty quickly over a period of several weeks to months. While they are not painful, there is no treatment for either condition. Right now once she’s in a routine in her familiar surroundings it’s not noticeable as she navigates well, but she becomes more tentative and unsure in new situations clearly relies more on her other senses. We would love for her to find a home as soon as possible while she still has some sight to help her transition more smoothly to a new home. Blind dogs do adapt very well and learn to rely on their other senses so much it can be hard to tell they can’t see, but being newly blind is stressful and will take some adjustment.

Layla came to us originally because she didn’t like the new child in the home and is a nervous quirky guardy protective little beauty queen. She looks like a purebred mini English cream longhair doxie, and definitely has the doxie attitude, but is actually a supposed to be a chihuahua/doxie/poodle/yorkie mix 🤷‍♀️, 9lbs full grown. She’s not particularly nice to other dogs though she can learn to exist with them as long as fed separately, but mostly prefers a quiet adult home and someone who will give her time and space, and attention on her terms. Read and study Luke’s bio for what to do and not to do with this little girl. 👓 📄 📚 She will be quizzing you.

Email njwoof@cs.com if you would like to open your home to Layla asap while she can still see you…

Though this 4 year old looks a lot like a purebred mini English Cream longhair doxie, believe it not she is supposedly mixed with chihuahua, yorkie and poodle also! 🤷‍♀️. Her personality is definitely doxie with some accents of chihuahua… not nice meeting new people and very protective of her people. She was given up because she despised the loud noises and fast movements of the child in the household and her attempts to discipline the child were not appreciated 👶 🩸 😖 🦷 😭
So she’s rated R and needs an experienced adult home. Once she loves you she is a loyal little personal security system and lap dog. The jury is still out on other dogs… if they are small, calm and stay out of her space she seems to adjust to them but they should avert their eyes and ignore her at first meeting or she will tell them off just as she does new people.

Layla weighs only 9lbs and luckily has gotten through life so far on her small size and supermodel good looks, but looks are deceiving and she’s really a large dog in her mind who wishes she could command more respect.
