My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Emmanuel (aka Manny) was found in the middle of the road when he'd finally run himself completely and utterly into the ground. Thank goodness for a good samaritan who coaxed him into her back yard with the lure of dog cookies. That's when one of the Dixie Girl fosters became involved (having lived in the neighborhood where he'd been found in the street). At his first vet appointment he was 65 lbs (extremely malnourished and underweight) and had about every worm that a dog could have, including heartworm. Despite all of this, Manny was sweet and affectionate. He has since put on 25 lbs while going through heartworm treatment and treatment for all the other worms that were basically stealing any nutrients he ingested. Now he's thriving. He's smart and affectionate. He loves his morning walks and gets along great with other dogs and has been nose to nose with cats without aggression. He would do best in a home with a very large enclosed yard with dog siblings that are on the larger side. He tends to use his weight to get what he wants, so being around children would be challenging. He needs both physical and mental stimulation daily, so being in an active family would be ideal.
