My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

SPECIAL NEEDS ADOPTER NEEDED FOR MEG-E GIRL 🥰🥰Bright Hope Animal Rescue has a very special girl with Mega-E available for adoption. She will require a special home, so please feel free to share and tag anyone who may be interested. Mirabelle (Miri) is a 6-month-old, female spayed chocolate lab and currently weighs 29 pounds
She has Congenital Megaesophagus- it is controlled well with upright feedings and medication. She is the sweetest special needs baby!! Precious Miri has no clue there is anything wrong with her. She is a playful, energetic lab puppy, but she has a dilated esophagus that she was born with. She couldn’t keep any food down at all and was extremely underweight and malnourished when we rescued her. Because of this, her size/growth has been stunted. We do not think she will get over 40 pounds if she even reaches that weight. She is very high-energy and is good with kids, other dogs, and cats. She will entertain herself with her toys too! She is crate trained and will kennel when told to do so, and waits impatiently for her good girl treat!
Because she has a megaesophagus or a dilated esophagus with reduced motility, she does require a special feeding schedule. Her food must be blended into a thick slurry and she has to take her medication 10-15 minutes before feeding her. When she eats, she must be elevated. Right now we are using a step stool for that. She then must remain elevated for the next 30-50 minutes. She loves her box and often falls asleep for an after-meal nap while she is in her box! We also use a donut collar to keep her head elevated and to give her a pillow for when she naps. She will regurgitate occasionally, but this has almost stopped. We have been adjusting her medication to find the optimal dose and time she remains elevated after feeding to minimize her regurgitation episodes. We have consulted with a specialist veterinarian and they have seen some puppies outgrow this problem, so far we have not seen that with her but she’s still only 6 months old. We are praying she does outgrow it, but if not, she is a happy puppy!!
Her ideal home would be someone who is retired or works from home with a fenced-in backyard so she can run freely and play ball. She loves to play fetch with her tennis ball or whatever toy she has. She will throw them up in the air herself so she can catch them. She also loves to cuddle and will follow every step you take when she bonds with you. She is such an amazing puppy and has been a real fighter through her rough start in life.
Miri is currently being fostered in East TN, but we can transport her to a pre-approved home in North Carolina, Washington DC, New York, and New England areas.
If you are interested in learning more about Miri, please email us at brighthopeadoptions@gmail.com and you will receive a link to our online application. Miri is spayed, up to date on vaccinations, microchipped, and will come with her own Baily chair.
