My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Our Zelda is a stunning Black and Tan Coonhound who lost her home over a squabble with other dogs in the home. She is a sensitive girl who is inclined to control the social order, especially if there is an ill mannered puppy in the vicinity.

Novice dog owners often make Rookie mistakes by bringing a puppy home whose antics may overwhelm the older resident dogs. Without proper leadership, an older dog will step up to discipline the puppy and then pays the price of losing his or her home. We suspect that was the case with Zelda.

Zelda came to us in July of 2020 and she was a bit anxious as she made her transition to rescue, but WOW has she blossomed. Now at about 6 years old, Zelda needs a quiet home of her own with adults who can offer her an active lifestyle. Zelda is not the kind of dog who can be relegated to the backyard alone. She craves human connection and one-to-one companionship.

Zelda loves all people and some other well-mannered dogs, but we have not had her around cats. She is a medium sized girl of 50 pounds, and is moderately active. She loves a spirited leash walk but then, like most hounds, knows when to slow down to smell the roses.

Zelda knows most basic commands and is easy to handle. She has good house manners, and is house trained and crate trained. Adopters should expect to troubleshoot the occasional accident that will inevitably occur during her transition to a new home. Zelda is in great health, has been spayed, and has received routine vaccinations and health screenings. She has been dewormed, microchipped and is on preventatives for Heartworm and Flea/Tick.
